On May 15, in Tonghui Street, Central District, Jinan City, the protection and repair work of the Beiyang Grand Theater is nearing completion, and the scaffolding on the façade of the main entrance has been removed, and the 119-year-old building has a new look.
It is understood that in 2012, the Beiyang Grand Theater had undergone restoration and repair projects. For a long period of time, the Beiyang Grand Theater was affected by natural and man-made factors, and the roof, tiles, wooden frames, outdoor plastering, oil decorations, etc. appeared to varying degrees. On March 23, the repair work officially began, the main contents of the southeast façade wood component painting, new paint, glazed tile roof inspection and repair, eradication of the plastering layer to restore the fake stone wall, new roof waterproofing, southeast façade wall overhaul, slope roof lookout board removal after beam frame maintenance, new lookout board and waterproofing, replacement of rotten eaves, roof elevator room demolition after re-masonry, etc. The construction was carried out in batches, and all were repaired according to the original appearance. The overall renovation work is scheduled to be completed around the end of May.
Beiyang Grand Theatre was founded in 1905, and the current building is a new type of theater built after the demolition of the old building in 1953, with a traditional revival style, brick and wood structure, and an architectural style of public cultural facilities in the early 50s of the early 20th century and the founding of New China. This theater has a history of 119 years since its completion, and is the earliest theatrical performance venue in Jinan, and it is also the oldest professional theatrical performance venue in Shandong Province that is still performing normally, with high historical and cultural value.
