My embassy reminds you: don't tip them!

Recently, the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar received a report from a Chinese citizen that he was asked for a "tip" by Myanmar staff when entering and leaving Myanmar. The embassy attaches great importance to this and has urged the relevant departments of Myanmar to put an end to the unhealthy practice of asking for "tips" and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens.

The Chinese Embassy and Consulates General in Myanmar reminds Chinese citizens:

1. The Government of Myanmar expressly prohibits public officials from collecting "tips", and foreign citizens are not required to pay "tips" to public officials at ports of entry and exit from Myanmar.

2. If Burmese personnel ask for "tips", they should clearly refuse, pay attention to collecting evidence such as the location of the incident, the time of the incident, and the person's badge, and promptly contact the Chinese embassy or consulate in Myanmar to protect their rights in accordance with the law.

3. Strictly abide by Myanmar's entry and exit laws and regulations, apply for entry visas in a timely manner, and fill in the Myanmar entry and exit registration card in advance. Fill in the customs declaration form truthfully to declare the items you carry, do not bring prohibited items in and out of the country, and do not pay "tips" in exchange for customs clearance convenience.

4. In case of emergency, please report to the local police and contact the Chinese embassy or consulate in Myanmar for assistance.
