On May 10, 2024, Xiaolong (pseudonym), a resident of Pengyang County, reported to the police that he had a message from a strange friend when he was browsing Kuaishou videos, and after he was added as a QQ friend, the other party sent a QQ video call (the other party used AI technology to change his face, and the avatar was his relative during the video) saying that he was working in Africa, the network was unstable, and it was inconvenient to transfer money, but he urgently needed to sign a contract with the company, hoping that Xiaolong could help him advance the contract funds to the company, and repay the money to Xiaolong after the network stabilized. Based on his trust in his relatives and having "verified" his identity through video chat, Xiaolong transferred 15,000 yuan to the bank account designated by the other party in three times. Afterwards, Xiaolong sent WeChat to his relatives to verify that he was deceived, and it turned out that the scammer pretended to be a relative to defraud him through AI face swapping and onomatopoeia technology.
