Nunnery – Yaqing Temple
The Yaqing Temple, known as the paradise, is located in Baiyu County, Sichuan Province, and the natural scenery here is very beautiful.
However, what is surprising is that the beautiful scenery in the valley is accompanied by extremely harsh living conditions.
Ordinary people living in Baiyu County do not live here and recuperate, but the founder of Yaqing Temple insists on building a temple here in order to better practice.
The founder of Yaqing Monastery is named Aqiu Rinpoche, who is not a native of Sichuan, but was born into a small farming family in Tibet.
Unlike the rest of his family, he showed little interest in his parents' farming from an early age, but showed a great interest in Buddhism.
The family didn't understand his thoughts, thinking that he would live a good life at home, and it would be good to get married and start a family when he grew up.
However, he was not happy with such a boring life that could be seen at a glance, he liked the Dharma and wanted to study the Dharma, and even though his family did not support him, he still strengthened his faith and was determined to dedicate himself to the Dharma.
Not understood by his family, Aqiuren had his own ideas and was a doer, so when he was young, he packed his small bags and left his hometown alone to study in the great monastery in Lhasa.
There, Aqiuren felt that he had learned the Dharma that was many times higher than the content of the book, so he began to practice in earnest.
The arduous cultivation tempered his will, and he was already talented and worked very hard, and in a few years, he had become a Rinzai master.
However, in Buddhism, all beings are equal, but the environment in which he lives is very unequal.
Although Tibet is the region with the strongest Buddhist atmosphere on the mainland, it has not changed the eternal issue that women's status is weaker than that of men, even among monks.
The social environment in Tibetan areas is also very conservative, and in their view, whether it is monks or commoners, the status of women is definitely inferior to that of men, and the treatment of female monks is not as good as that of male monks.
Achok Rinpo, who is deeply involved in the Dharma, was puzzled by this, and when faced with the discriminatory attitude of the people, he did not feel sorry for the bad treatment he had received, but felt deeply saddened by the monk, who was a woman.
He, a great achiever who has systematically studied the Dharma, still receives such treatment, and those female monks who decide to switch to the arms of our Buddha because the reality is too bitter and become a monk halfway through the way receive even more white eyes.
Thinking of this, Aqiuren firmly believes that the treatment received by female monks is extremely unfair, which is an unwarranted contempt for female monks, and it is not in line with the Buddha's teachings on equality and compassion.
So, instead of being discouraged, he chose to change the status quo and was determined to build an undisturbed place for female monks who were dedicated to Buddha.
In this remote and uninhabited valley, Aqiuren succeeded in doing everything he wanted to do at that time, building a "paradise" Buddhist temple for Tibetan women, named Yaqing Monastery.
As soon as this news came out, pious female practitioners from all over the world rushed here, and by now, there are nearly 20,000 female practitioners in Yaqing Temple, and it is also the largest nunnery in the mainland.
These practitioners recite at sunrise and rest at sunset, live in their own wooden huts, and devote themselves to practicing the Dharma day and night, so this place is also known as the "Pure Land for Women".
These devout and hardworking female practitioners also have a nice name - Kyaw Mu.
In the early years, the movie "Red River Valley" starring in Tranquility brought the word "Juemu" to everyone's field of vision, which left a deep impression.
Kyaw Mu is a Tibetan word meaning "ordained woman", which is a praise and recognition of women, and also represents a woman's noble status and honorable status, and is a respect for them.
After watching the movie, everyone knows that there is such a group of extremely outstanding women in Tibetan Buddhism, who do not succumb to the injustice of fate, but devote themselves to the Buddha and use them to find the meaning of life, and obtain freedom and spiritual cleansing.
And their devotion to the study of the Dharma is not only for themselves, but also for the sake of the unliberated beings in the world.
Special regulations for Yaqing Temple
In Yaqing Monastery, more than 20,000 women are such an outstanding group of girls who practice Buddhism here.
Next to Yaqing Temple, there are small red wooden houses that are the residences of the practitioners and the places where they devote themselves to the study of the Dharma, attracting a large number of tourists to watch and visit the Kyaw Mu who have dedicated their lives to the Dharma.
But under this seemingly all-encompassing land, after nightfall, there is a hidden "dead rule" that cannot be violated.
Violators are immediately expelled from the monastery, and there are no exceptions.
So what exactly is this regulation, and why is it so strict?
It turns out that in Yaqing Temple, every Kyaw Mu studied Buddhism day and night, and worked hard to become a "living Buddha".
However, on the path of cultivation, in addition to studying the Dharma with the heart, it is also necessary to be firm and diligent.
In order to better hone this spirit, it is necessary for the Kyaw Mu to have the determination to cut off all contact with the outside world, as well as the spiritual concept of not joining the WTO.
Yaqing Temple attracts a large number of tourists because of its beautiful scenery and the largest nunnery in China, and many shopping malls have been established around the Buddhist temple.
In order to better restrain Juemu, so that they do not lose their minds because of the hustle and bustle of the world, and shake the foundation of their cultivation.
Therefore, the temple has set a rule that restricts them: after dark, they can only stay in their rooms, they are not allowed to go out at will, and they are not allowed to spend and shop as they want in the shops around the temple.
