The heavens and the earth are vast, and what place does not show signs of change? Change is universal.

Everything is complicated, what kind of thing is not active in the state of self-satisfaction? Self-satisfaction is the same. There are many soldiers and civilians, and who is not under the king's banner? The king is supreme. A king must be virtuous in order to reign. The king must obey the ways of heaven in order to succeed. That's why I said that the ancient great chiefs ruled the world, ruled by inaction, had human virtue inside, and obeyed the way of heaven outside, and that's it.

To obey the way of heaven is to adhere to the view of the way. The tendency of public opinion is skewed, and it is corrected from the point of view of the Tao. The relationship between the monarch and the minister is confused, and the Taoist point of view is used to clarify it. The function of the government is blocked, and it is straightened out from the point of view of the Tao. The natural ecology is out of balance, and it is adjusted from the viewpoint of the Tao. It is necessary to have human morality in order to follow the way of heaven outside. Therefore, it is the Tao that runs through the universe, virtue that runs through the society, and righteousness that runs through all things.

All things exist for a reason, and that is righteousness. Administration is top-down, that's the thing. Ability to work has expertise, this is the skill.

Skill, attached to the matter. Things depend on righteousness. Righteousness is governed by virtue. Virtue is in line with the Tao. The Tao permeates all things in the universe. So I also want to say that the ancient great chiefs took care of the world and paid attention to cultivating virtue and learning the Tao. They themselves are incorruptible and desireless, so the people are self-sufficient. They themselves are dashing and have nothing to do, so everything flourishes and declines. They themselves are quiet, so the society is self-reliant.

I figured out what to say: "The king is powerless, the road is one, all is well, and the world is peaceful." The king has no desire, the great virtue is perfect, the people are tranquil, and the ghosts and gods praise him. ”

Our patriarch Lao Dan said, "Dao, you are a vast and high heaven, taking care of all living beings. Dao Yo, you are the vast land, accepting the people. Gentlemen in power, if you don't give up, you still want to interfere, that's not okay. Doing nothing, letting all things create by themselves, this is the Tao. Don't say anything, let the truth confess itself, this is virtue. Respecting life and cherishing others is benevolence. Seeking common ground while reserving differences and putting flowers into a hundred flowers, this is big. Don't be pretentious and proud, don't suffer from the difficulties of others, this is wide. Swallowing everything with a big belly, harboring what others do not have, this is rich. The externalization of virtue and discipline is discipline. Virtue is there, do it, make achievements, this is standing. The Tao is there, go along, go all right, this is the preparation. Sticking to my own position and viewpoint, I regard the hard and soft entanglement of the outside world, and I will always be consistent until the death, this is the end.

Dao, virtue, benevolence, greatness, generosity, wealth, discipline, establishment, preparation, and completion, these ten aspects, the gentleman in power has figured it out, his ambition will be firmly established, and all the people will go to him. A gentleman like him, he does not mine gold mines in the mountains, does not fish for pearls and mussels in the sea, does not touch the money bag in his hands, does not hold yarn hats in his heart, does not hold wedding feasts when he has a high life, does not need to mourn eggs when his life is short, is generous but not arrogant, and is poor but not down. He was put in charge of the finances, and he was not corrupt, and he did not keep his own little treasury. Let him rule the world, he is not confused, and he should not be a big man. In his view, all things are born from the same root, and death and life are the same. ”

Our ancestor Lao Dan said: "Daoyo, you are like a snow-white quartz stone, sinking in deep water and shiny, you can't touch it, you can see it clearly." Copper can't be a bell, and stone can't be a way. Just as Zhong Yan is silent, does not knock or ring, and says silently, people don't ask, you don't answer, people don't feel, you shouldn't. Everything is a guest, without you, who will be the master, who will determine the world. There is that virtuous gentleman, in order to maintain his innocence forever, the officialdom and secular affairs of the yamen are ashamed to ask. He is based on the Tao, wisdom and spirit, so he spreads his reputation far and wide, and when he has a feeling in his heart, the outside world will respond. It is the Tao that creates our flesh, and there is no Tao, where can there be a seven-foot body? It is virtue that cultivates our souls, and we live our lives without virtue and confusion. Maintaining a minimum of physique, living long enough to be of due age, Lide has made achievements, and learned the Tao to understand the theory, this is not the character of Dade. There is that virtuous gentleman, hidden underground, like a secret Yin River, once the topsoil on the ground is broken, it suddenly erupts into a high pillar and flows into a big river. Along the way, the people were beaming, cheering and chasing the flood. Say, you are dark there, and the common eye does not see any sign of you; You are quiet there, and your voice is not heard. Only the gentleman of virtue saw the dawn of the morning glow in the darkness, and quietly heard the harmonious singing. Dao, you are profound and popular, feeding all things; You are magical and simple, transporting essence; You are empty, the most nothing, but you are able to provide all things and satisfy the needs of all things; You are changing, running non-stop, but you can provide a quiet place to welcome all things to sleep. ”

The Yellow Emperor inspected the northern border, crossed the Chishui River in the north, climbed the Kunlun Mountain, and looked at China in the south, and was very proud. The Yellow Emperor said: "My play is the root of life, it is the symbol of the Tao, how can I lose it!" The Yellow Emperor instructed his minister, Ah Zhi, saying: "You are an intellectual, you can read five chariots of books, and you can understand all languages." You lead the team to find it. ”

Ah Zhi went and did not find it. Came back and reported: "I use knowledge to find." I searched through the encyclopedia and couldn't find it. ”

The Yellow Emperor instructed the minister to leave Zhu and said: "You are the champion of vision, you can observe the five colors in the dark room, and look at the eye of a needle in a hundred steps." You go and find it. ”

I left Zhu and didn't find it. Came back and reported: "I'll look for it with my eyesight." I used remote perspective all over the place, but I couldn't find that thing. ”

The Yellow Emperor instructed the ministers to roar and say, "You are an expert in debate, and you can speak well." You go and find it. ”

Roar went, but was not found. Came back and reported: "I'll find it with debate." Logic was used, reasoning was used, and my voice was hoarse, but I still couldn't find the symbol of the Tao, the string of hanging beads. ”

The Yellow Emperor was helpless, and he called Xiang Ganglai. Xiang Yan is an invisible person, and his name translated into the vernacular means that there is no image, and no one can see his noble face. The Yellow Emperor said, "I had to send you to try it." ”

The elephant went and found it. When the Yellow Emperor heard the news, he exclaimed: "Strange! The tangible cannot be found, but the invisible is found. ”

Xiang Yan said: "There is no way to find it, it is easy to find." ”

During the reign of Emperor Yao, he worshipped Xu You as a teacher and often asked for advice. The teacher of the hermit Xu You is a rodent. The hermit's missing teacher was Wang Ni. The teacher of the hermit Wang Ni is the quilt, also known as Mr. Puyi, who is also a hermit.

Emperor Yao wanted to give way to Xu You, but Xu You pushed it away with jokes, and ridiculed each other. Emperor Yao had the idea of biting again, and asked Xu You: "How is your teacher biting?" His cultivation can sit in the world, right? I want to ask his teacher Wang Ni to facilitate it, okay?"

Xu You said: "You are risking the world!" My teacher is lacking, one sold, two bright, three sages and four wisdoms, he has a far-reaching strategy, a decisive work, and an extraordinary temperament. He dared to use artificial force to tie up the innate nature, just like the groom used the belt to tighten the horse's hips, the so-called subjective victory over the objective, man will win the sky. When the people violated the criminal law, he only knew how to deal with it strictly, but he did not know that the wisdom and wisdom he advocated were the root of all evil. Will he sit in the world? He uses manpower to deny nature, and there is a good show to watch. The first act is self-centered, defeating the opposite, and everyone revolves around him. The second act is to advocate intelligence, wisdom is good for officials, and the scholars are anxious. The third act is to expand the official mansion, find trouble by yourself, and be so tired that you can't sleep and eat. The fourth act is to transform the world, subjective meets objective, and touches a blue nose and swollen face. The fifth act is a call to all directions, the general mobilization of the whole people, and everyone is in a hurry. The sixth act is Troubled. Mountains of contradictions are piled up to deal with petitions from all walks of life. The seventh act is the tragic death, and the world is in chaos, leaving a mess. Can he sit in the world? I know very well that there is a shortage of teachers, and he is indeed extraordinary, cohesive, creative, and can be a magistrate, but he cannot be a king. As a king, in the face of the world, his subjective initiative has become much stronger, and he is a typical governance fan. Governance goes first, turmoil follows, cause and effect! What cure? That is a curse to the people. What reason? That was the king's enemy. ”

Emperor Yao visited Huashan and drove to Huajiazhuang at the foot of the mountain. The owner of the village is an old man with a fairy wind and bones, and he came to wait for the holy driver.

Emperor Yao got out of the car. The owner bowed and said, "Obscurity, saint! Please allow the old man to give a congratulatory speech. ”

Emperor Yao glared and said, "Don't, don't." ”

The owner said: "Longevity is hugely rich, and everyone is looking forward to it." You don't want to hear it, why?"

Emperor Yao said: "Many sons and grandchildren have many worries. If you are rich, you can't be idle. The old age is not dead, and it is disgusting. These three points are not conducive to the perfection of personal morality, so I don't dare, I don't dare. ”

The owner said, "I thought you were really a saint, but I was wrong." You're just an ordinary gentleman, alas. Listen to me. God gave birth to all the people, no matter how good or bad, he would always give him a job. Golden bowls, iron bowls, clay bowls, bowls are always there. Children and grandchildren have bowls to serve, who told you to worry. If you are rich, you will treat the property as if it is not yours, and it will be distributed to the poor, so you will be idle? A true saint, the idea is different from yours. He is like a quail who does not choose a place to live, and he is like a fledgling who does not choose rations. He travels, flies all over the sky, and does not need officials to welcome and send him. Social life is normal, he is in a high position, and he also works hand in hand with everyone to achieve better day by day. When his social life was out of order, he retired to maintain his high moral integrity and obscurity. When he was tired of life for a hundred years, he abandoned the skin of boredom, let his soul be liberated, drifted with the wind, rode the white clouds, and flew to heaven, ah, the true homeland. The three things you are afraid of do him no harm. What an old age is annoying, to him, this is ridiculous!"

After speaking, the owner of Huajiazhuang left. Emperor Yao seemed to wake up from a dream, and hurriedly chased after him, and even said please ask. The owner didn't look back, but walked and said, "Please go home." ”

Emperor Yao was stunned, but saw that Huashan was like a red lotus budding open, reflecting the rising sun.

Bo Chengzi is high, surnamed Bo Cheng, his name is high, and he is very diligent in learning Taoism and cultivating virtues. In the past, when Emperor Yao was on the throne, he promoted the Magi, and Bo Chengzi became the marquis. Later, Yao abdicated and gave way to Shun, and Bo Chengzi was right. Later, Emperor Shun inspected the south and died in Cangwu, and Yu, who had meritorious service in controlling water, became the emperor and was the founder of the Xia Dynasty. Bo Chengzi understood in his heart that the Yao Shun era went with the simple folk customs, and the civilized era came with the cruel blood and fire, so he reported his resignation. Without waiting for approval, he has returned to his hometown to work as a farmer and plough the southern acres.

Since King Xia Yu started by controlling the water, he must implement the policy of rewarding meritorious deeds. The title of official depends on your performance, and whether you are virtuous or not is secondary. However, a famous wise man like Bo Chengzi Gao, although he has done nothing and has no merit, he must also stay in the court, so as not to let public opinion talk about our utilitarianism. So he took his entourage to find Bo Chengzigao in person, and he was really thirsty for talent.

Bo Chengzi Gao is plowing the field. King Xia Yu went down to the field, stood in a downwind position, humbly had bad breath, and said respectfully: "Our seniors, when Master Yao is in power, I will make you a candidate." The world is passed to Shun Ye, and you continue to be a prince. Shun Ye passed the world to me, I didn't have time to come to visit, why did you leave the burden and leave, senior. Good Hou Ye, you don't deserve to come to plow the fields, do you have an opinion on me? Old-timers, shall we talk?"

Bo Chengzi Gao said: "In the past, Yao Ye was in power, and morality was the key link. He does not reward anyone, but the people are naturally diligent and good. He does not punish anyone, and the people naturally guard against arrogance and fierceness. Now that you are in power, you are based on punishment. Thou hast rewarded at every turn, but the people have remained unkind. You punish people at every turn, and the people still break the law and discipline. With punishment as the key link, moral decay and turmoil will be endless, and you are the leader! What are you doing here? Go away, don't disturb my business. ”

Bo Chengzi ignored King Xia Yu and continued to plough his field, carefully not missing an inch of land.

What's in the beginning? There is "none".

None of the "haves" were initially not.

What else was there initially? And nothingness.

Anything that exists does not exist in the first place.

Since there is no "being",

How can there be a name that represents "yes"?

Since there is no existence,

What is the concept of existence that reflects existence?

Later, there was "yes",

This "being" is the universe.

The universe is the Great One.

There is only one universe, so it is the Great One;

The universe is a mess, so it's a freshman;

The universe is the same everywhere, so it's a freshman;

The universe is not divided into the earth, yin and yang are the same, so it is the great one.

This one, the inner hidden way,

Not yet awake, sleeping.

And then it was divided into two, and the Tao woke up,

So a cloud of chaos cracked into the heavens and the earth,

So the contradiction between yin and yang promotes the change of vitality,

So the creatures were created, from one to ten thousand.

It is the Word that makes all things,

and all things are gained.

Get what? Enlightenment.

Everything has a gain,

They all have their own virtues. This is virtue.

Before the molding of all things,

As early as the germ period,

He has received the destiny of heaven,

Never uninterrupted domination of a lifetime. It's fate.

The contradiction of yin and yang causes life,

Life grows, each with its own body. This is the shape.

Within the form of all things, there is a spirituality of its own.

Spirituality varies from species to species,

Each adheres to its own unique rules. It's sex.

cultivate one's own spirituality,

Compare your own virtues.

To perfect virtue,

Cleanse the pollution of human hypocrisy,

Give me back my childlike innocence.

There is nothing in the heart, there is no delusion, and it is naturally empty.

The heart is empty, there is no prejudice, and the nature is broad.

Man has a broad mind,

Speech is in accordance with the unintentional birdsong,

Behavior is in line with the path of inaction.

This kind of conformity is meticulous.

Strict foolishness, not wisdom,

Strictly observe obscurity, and do not shine.

The so-called Xuande is in line with the way of heaven, and this is it.

One of the disciples of the logic master Gongsun Long, who claimed to be a sage, came to Confucius to argue, saying that he would defend his teacher's white theory. The core proposition of the theory of hard white is that a piece of quartz stone can be analyzed as a piece of hard, a piece of white, and a piece of stone. He eloquently refuted Confucius's arguments one by one. He also asked: "Who is the true saint, you?" Me?"

Afterwards, Confucius was bored and came to consult Lao Dan.

Confucius said: "There are two gentlemen who discuss the theory of solidity, and their doctrine is simply a. This one said yes, and that one said no. This one says yes, that one says no. The eloquent one said that the white can definitely be analyzed, and this principle is not self-explanatory, just like the sun, the moon, and the sky, which can be seen when you look up. The weak argument is not winning. Answer me, the eloquent one should be a saint, right?"

Lao Dan said: "The one you are talking about is very much like the little official who serves in the yamen, he is tired from work and his mood is urgent, and his skill is like a rope, tying himself to the desk, wanting to transfer but not leaving, wanting to resign and not being able to resign, and only when he dies will he be loosened." Firmness is the rope that binds him, and he is liberated when he dies. The dog can be detained for anti-theft, tied to the door with sad eyes, sad and not free. The apes in the mountains can jump, and an iron chain is put on the neck, and they enter the city to make people laugh. There are some things that you have obviously never heard or spoken, O Kongqiu, and I will tell you. The vast majority of people in this world have heads and feet, but they don't have hearts and livers and lack ears. You reason with them, and they have no ears to hear. You preach to them, and they have no intention to enlighten them. What can be seen is the human form, and what is not seen is the way of heaven. He who combines form and Tao, there is no one in the middle of his door. They have nothing to do with the Tao. They moved, and as a result, they stopped. They died, but they were born again. They were nullified, and they started again. These results were all unexpected. Trying to cure is not good, it is man-made. It is the way of heaven to be cured by doing nothing. Forget about man-made, forget about the way of heaven, that is to say, forget about personnel, forget about heavenly principles, if you can do this, you can forget yourself. The so-called I lost myself, and that is it. If you forget your own existence, you will be in the way of heaven. ”

The country of Lu was in turmoil, and the king was anxious to seek talent, so he summoned the hermit Jiang Lu and said, "Please give me advice." Jiang Lu excused himself. The king pestered and consulted again and again. When Jiang Lufu saw the sincerity of the king, he boldly shouted: "Don't be extravagant yourself, don't be arrogant to your subordinates, and take the lead in practicing frugality." In terms of the cadre line, you have to promote those loyal ministers who are selfless in the public service, but don't be nepotistic. The above two points have been implemented, and the people dare to say two things. After saying that, I felt that it was not appropriate, but I couldn't remember which sentence was inappropriate. The king thanked him again and again, and said that he would invite him out of the mountain in the future to help the difficult times and revitalize the country of Lu.

After returning home from the royal office, Jiang Lufu visited the hermit Ji Che and told him about it, repeating everything he had said.

Jiang Lufu asked, "Are those words proper?"

Ji Che smiled and bent over, and said, "Sir, those preaching, take them to King Kuangzheng, it's like a mantis arm blocking a car, and it's a fart!" If he had heard your words, would he not have opened his eyes and jumped off the cliff? What takes the lead in practicing frugality? You're just teaching him how to act. What promotes the selfless and loyal servants of the Grand Duke? He has built so many office buildings, and those who want to be promoted just show loyalty and act selflessly. There are so many guys who sharpen their heads and want to drill into the building, and the monarchs and ministers are all fake, can Lu Guo be stable?"

Jiang Lufu was stunned and said: "I am shallow in my knowledge, and when I heard Mr. 's words, I was even more at a loss, I hope you will talk about a score." ”

Ji Che said: "The great sage sits in the world and promotes the people's hearts to be good, which is to let the people build spiritual civilization and change unhealthy customs; It is to let the people eliminate the sense of brutality and establish the concept of being responsible for themselves. Doing all this is by no means an official grasp to the end, but relying on the people to do it themselves, just like the natural expression of human nature, and they can't say why this is happening. After doing all this, the great sage surpassed Yao Ye and Shun Ye, why not worship Yao Shun as the eldest brother and degrade himself as the elder brother. He is on an equal footing with Yao Shun, and he can be at ease and without any guilt. ”

Zigong was an early student of Confucius, and after graduation, he went into business and became a wealthy man. He sponsored Confucius to run a school and also gave lectures at the school. Once, he took a few students on a self-funded trip, starting from the state of Lu in Shandong, to the state of Jin in Shanxi, and then to the state of Chu in the south. In addition to watching the mountains and playing in the water, he gave speeches along the way, promoted Confucianism, and touched the business situation by the way. After swimming in the Chu State, on the road back to the Jin Kingdom in the north, crossing the Han River, resting outside the Hanyin City on the north bank, the big tree Bian on the side of the road, saw the old man irrigating the vegetable garden, tired and panting.

Zigong said to himself: "It's too backward! It's too backward!"

It turned out that the old man was digging an open-air tunnel next to the well and walking down the slope until he reached the well. Filled with an urn of water, he hugged it to his chest and climbed diagonally from the bottom of the tunnel to the ground, pouring vegetables and vegetables. Zigong walked to the exit of the tunnel and said to the well: "Old man, you have worked too hard like this. Nowadays, there is a mechanical device for lifting water, which irrigates 100 furrows a day, with less force and more effect. Don't you want to reform it, old man?"

The old man looked up at Zigong and asked, "What kind of?"

Zigong said: "Two pillars are erected next to the well. The top of the column is drilled and the beam is teased. The beam overhangs the crossbar, one end is light, the other end is heavy. The light one is tied to a long rope to hang the bucket, cast it, pump it up, use the lever principle to lift the water, and scoop the soup with a scoop, which is light and fast. This is the orange tree. ”

The old man sneered and said indignantly: "Guest officer, I remember my teacher's teaching: if you use a tool of cunning, you will inevitably do things that take advantage of the opportunity in your behavior; Doing more things that take advantage of the opportunity will inevitably give rise to opportunism in terms of consciousness. The old man cultivates virtue and opportunistic heart takes root in his chest, and the pure virtue will be destroyed; Once the pure virtue is destroyed, the silent soul will be disturbed; The silent soul is often in turmoil, and the mysterious avenue will be abandoned. It's not that I can't do the thing you talked about, but I feel ashamed and don't want to do it!"

Zigong was secretly ashamed, speechless, and looked down at the well.

The two sides were at a stalemate for a moment, and the old man asked, "What kind of person is the guest officer?"

Zigong whispered, "Disciples of Kongqiu." ”

The old man smiled and said, "Is that the guy?" I know, I know. Are you one of them? They are all erudite, striving to be saints, but they also communicate with each other, speak like shouting trumpets, this group sings hi hi, that group sings ho ho, helps each other, sings in chorus to suppress everyone, very united! can each mourn the strings solo, scolding the world for being dazed, but he is the only one who is sober and uses this tone to make a name for himself. Tell me, isn't that the case? If you are reborn, forget your old soul, and leave your existing body behind, you will not be far from the way. You love to talk about how to rule the world, don't you? You haven't even healed yourself, you are opportunistic, and you still have time to rule the world. Hurry up, don't delay my business here!"

Zigong retreated from the vegetable garden to the big tree beside the road and beckoned the students to continue on their way. The old man's conversation urged him to save violently, making him feel inferior and contemptible, and he could not hold his head high. After walking thirty miles, I stayed overnight, and my face improved.

One student asked, "What did that old man do in the vegetable garden?" When the teacher saw him, why did he bow his head and not speak, his face changed, and he was uncomfortable all day?"

Zigong said: "I always thought that your old teacher, my teacher, was the first person in the world to cultivate morality, and I didn't know that there was another person. Your old teacher once said that no matter what you do, you can do it; Either way, success is good. He also said that there are many ways to accomplish a thing, and only the way that uses less force and more effect is in line with the way of the saints. Now I understand that the teacher said something wrong. I saw from the old gentleman who shrubbed the vegetable garden that those who have attained the Tao are virtuously perfect, those who are virtuous are perfect, those who are virtuous are perfect, those who are virtuous are spiritually sound, and those who are spiritually sound are walking the way that conforms to the way of the saints. The criterion for testing the way of a saint should be the soundness of the soul, not utilitarianism. Those who have attained the Tao have chosen a common people's way of life for themselves, unlike our Eguan Bo belt, which is one step above others; Those who have attained the Tao are happy with what they encounter, and they are not stubborn, unlike us who go around the world, make speeches and publicity, and touch business information. Those who have attained the Tao have a vast spiritual realm, pure morality, beautiful souls, non-utilitarian, no tricks, no speculation, not like we seek fame and profit, and often talk about efficiency. Those who have attained enlightenment, such as the old gentleman who irrigated the garden, are not in their own interests, and even if they are beneficial, they will not go. If it doesn't meet his ideals, even if it is effective, he will not take it. He is a man like him, and you lead the people of the whole world to praise him, and praise him is realistic, and he does not care proudly; You mobilized people all over the world to scold him, and the scolding was unrealistic, and he didn't answer it. For him, the praise of society and the scolding of society are not helpful, nor are they harmful, and they are not worth mentioning. The so-called virtuous and perfect people are like him. ”

Another student said, "Who should we?"

Zigong said, "We people, the grass under the wind, the light ping on the waves, the life is not stable, the ups and downs are all with fate." I'll give you a name, People of Turmoil. ”

Later, when he returned to Lu State, Zigong reported his travel experience to Principal Kong, and talked about the refusal of the old man holding the urn outside Hanyin City to use the orange tree. Confucius disagreed, saying: "In ancient times, in the world of virtue, outside the twelve clans, there was a chaotic clan, which is said to be conservative.
