Yesterday (9 May), there were two fire incidents in Singapore, one in Toa Payoh and one in Woodlands. The fires posed a serious threat to life and property, but fortunately, there were no casualties in either fire.
A fire broke out at the Toa Payoh industrial plant
At around 9.40pm, a major fire broke out at the Toa Payoh Industrial Plant.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed the incident on Facebook.

On that day, a total of 15 emergency vehicles and about 60 firefighters went to the scene of the fire. A firefighter suffered leg cramps during the operation, and halfway through his mission, he was taken to the hospital for examination, but the others were not injured.
Update: The firefighter does not require further treatment and is currently resting at home.
After the fire was extinguished, the Civil Defence Force carried out mitigation operations to prevent the fire from recurring by spraying water to ensure that the embers were completely extinguished.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
There were 215 vehicular fires last year
According to the latest statistics of the Civil Protection Force, in 2023 there were a total of 215 vehicle fires, an increase of 5.4% compared to the previous year. These fires are mainly caused by overheating of the engine compartment or electrical faults.
Owners should regularly visit an authorized repair shop to check the vehicle's electrical, engine, and fuel systems to ensure that there are no problems. In addition, car owners should also pay attention to whether there are abnormal conditions such as oil leakage in daily use.
In industrial plant areas, the risk of fire is high, so there is a need for enhanced safety supervision and fire prevention measures. For vehicle fires, car owners should pay more attention to daily inspection and maintenance, especially the electrical system and fuel system.
Through timely alarms and effective fire extinguishing operations, the Civil Defence Force was able to control the fire and avoid more serious consequences.
