This year, the Anti-Japanese War has just been won for 6 years, and the People's Republic of China has just been founded for 2 years. After nearly half a century of war, New China can be said to be in ruins, but I did not expect that just two years after peace, the invaders came again.
The boys of the militia are furious at those who invade other countries. One of the militiamen, Wang Heliang, clenched his fists even more, eager to charge.
This militiaman named Wang Heliang was born in 1929, and because of his poor family, his family has often run out of food for as long as he can remember. Under the devastation of life, my mother died very early.
In order to support his family, his father had to work for the landlord, but he could not earn a few dollars in a year, and it was common for him to be beaten and scolded.
Although he has not read or received education in new ideas, he knows that only those who protect the safety of the people and let the people no longer be bullied are the most admirable.
Finally, Wang Heliang and his father survived the war and waited for the day of the victory of New China. And the Wang family, like all the people, was given the land and lived a stable life.
But Wang Heliang did not expect that just two years after such a day, the United States would provoke another incident. When he learned that China was going to send troops, Wang Heliang raised his hand to sign up without the slightest hesitation.
But Wang Heliang did not know that a year later he would experience an extremely brutal battle. Although he knew that there would be casualties in the war, his father unconditionally supported his son's choice.
In this way, 21-year-old Wang Heliang became a member of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army and was incorporated into the 5th Regiment of the 87th Regiment of the 29th Division of the 15th Army.
And just when Wang Heliang was full of enthusiasm and was about to go to war with the American invaders, a young man named Xue Zhigao in Sichuan had already said goodbye to his parents and was ready to go north to North Korea.
Xue Zhigao is one year younger than Wang Heliang, but his upbringing was not so sad. As an adult, he joined the local "armed pairs" and participated in the fight to quell the bandit rebellion.
Because of his excellent performance, Xue Zhigao joined the People's Liberation Army and became the deputy squad leader. When he learned that China was going to "resist US aggression and aid Korea", Xue Zhigao first took the lead in signing up, and they wanted to fight in North Korea to prevent this war from burning to China.
Because they had no real combat experience before, Wang Heliang and Xue Zhigao did not go to the battlefield as soon as possible, but now they are training in the rear.
At first, because Wang Heliang was relatively thin, the army arranged for him to be a communicator, but Wang Heliang was not satisfied with this arrangement, and he wanted to fight face to face with the enemy.

Although he has lived a hard life since childhood, the real combat training is far more arduous than the phenomenon. In July 1951, after intense training, Wang Heliang and Xue Zhigao finally ushered in an exciting moment, and they followed the large army across the Yalu River to the Korean battlefield.
At this time, the overall situation in the Korean battlefield was reversed because of the addition of volunteers. The United Nations forces have retreated below the 38th parallel, and Pyongyang, which has been occupied by the United States, has been recaptured.
The war situation seemed to be developing in a good direction, but in fact, the situation of the volunteers at that time was very bad. Because the logistical supply was not in place, the volunteers lagged far behind the enemy in terms of clothing, food, housing, transportation, weapons, and so on.
In the extremely cold weather, the volunteers ate a mouthful of snow when they were thirsty, and ate fried noodles with snow water when they were hungry. But even if the conditions are so difficult, the volunteers are still full of fighting spirit, and behind this is the power of strong faith.
At this time, Wang Heliang and Xue Zhigao, like their comrades-in-arms, struggled against harsh conditions, but the cruelty of the war still made them sad.
At this time, North Korea was devastated as far as the eye could see, with debris destroyed by bombs everywhere, and North Korean refugees who were starved and yellow-skinned on the roadside.
Wang Heliang and Xue Zhigao's hearts were deeply pierced, and they also made up their minds that they must fight to the death with the troops, so that their relatives and compatriots would not suffer from the Korean people.
In March 1952, Wang Heliang and Xue Zhigao followed their troops to Pyongkang, North Korea, where they began to repair fortifications and dig trenches in preparation for the upcoming battle.
During this time, they had several encounters with the enemy, each time capturing a few enemies and gaining some weapons, etc. Of course, such a battle is far from the upcoming Battle of Shangganling.
In October of that year, because the United Nations forces were in a passive state on the Korean battlefield, they set their target on the "Shangganling", once the enemy captured the two heights on the left and right sides of Shangganling, they would enter the Pyongkang Plain, and the tide of the battle would be turned by them.
In order to win the battle, the United Nations forces mobilized a large number of troops and advanced weapons. And the volunteer soldiers only had old weapons and logistical supplies that could not be guaranteed.
On October 14, the Battle of Shangganling was about to break out, and the Volunteer Army also ushered in the most brutal battle to resist US aggression and aid Korea. Enemy shells rained down on the volunteers.
In the blink of an eye, the scorched earth on the hill was flying and the smoke was filled. But even so, the volunteers are still fearless, with the spirit of not being afraid of death and the fighting spirit of daring to sacrifice themselves, the volunteers repeatedly compete with the enemy for positions in the case of backward weapons.
After half a month of fierce fighting, on the evening of October 30, the Volunteer Army launched a decisive counterattack on two heights. Wang Heliang and Xue Zhigao's troops were also the teams that participated in the battle, and they were mainly responsible for assault missions.
This was an extremely tragic battle, the enemy frantically dropped bombs and grenades at the volunteers, and Wang Heliang, Xue Zhigao and their comrades-in-arms braved the enemy's artillery fire to desperately charge the enemy camp.
Suddenly, dozens of grenades were projected at Wang Heliang and his comrades-in-arms, who died on the spot. Wang Heliang was also blown away, although his life was saved, he felt the pain on his face, and his vision became more and more blurred.
Wang Heliang subconsciously used his hands to pull the things stuck to his face, and the pain was even stronger. He immediately reacted that it was his left eyeball.
Wang Heliang endured the pain and kept calling the names of his comrades, but no one responded for a long time. Just when he thought that his comrades-in-arms were all sacrificed, the voice of Xue Zhigao, the deputy squad leader, suddenly came.
Xue Zhigao told Wang Heliang that his leg was blown off. Subsequently, under the guidance of Xue Zhigao, the two finally got closer, and there was a simple medicine box beside them, so Wang Heliang bandaged himself and Xue Zhigao with a faint light.
Badly injured and without food, both of them were exhausted and didn't know what to do next.
Wang Heliang pondered for a moment, and a thought flashed through his mind, since his eye was injured and Xue Zhigao's leg was injured, then the two of them merged into one person and continued to fight.
Xue Zhigao strongly agreed with Wang Heliang's suggestion. In this way, Wang Heliang became Xue Zhigao's legs, and Xue Zhigao became Wang Heliang's eyes, and they became a complete warrior.
Not long after they walked, they ran into the enemy head-on, and Xue Zhigao began to shoot and instructed Wang Heliang to throw grenades at the enemy. This scene shocked even the people of the 8th Army Corps of the United States.
One eye is blind, the other leg is broken, they should have withdrawn from the battle, but they merged into one person and became the banner that does not fall, behind which is strong and supported by faith, which is beyond the imagination of the enemy.
After the battle began, the two men quickly separated, and continued to fight the enemy in ambush in different places. Unfortunately, Xue Zhigao was martyred in battle, and Wang Heliang was ready to die with the enemy.
But in the end, Wang Heliang saved his life, and when he woke up after fainting, he heard the voice of the Chinese, and he was carried out of the battlefield by his comrades and sent to the hospital for treatment.
A few days later, when Wang Heliang woke up, someone asked him: "Why do you insist on fighting when you are blind?" ”
Wang Heliang said: "My comrades-in-arms are volunteers, and so am I, if I want to die, I will die on the battlefield, if we do not fight, the flames of war will burn our country, and our compatriots will be like the Korean people, their homes will be destroyed and their lives will be threatened..."
