The difference in perception stems from Default and Logic

The differences between people may be gender, age, education, money, status, fame, etc., but I think the most fundamental difference is the difference in perception.

In the face of the same thing, some people are calm and laugh at it; some people are full of doubts and uneasy; some people speak up and make their views clear; and some people stand by and watch and steal their own thoughts...... Everyone has their own independent opinions and ways of behaving, and this is the world we are facing.

In the management scenario, we need the consistency of cognition to ensure the efficiency of execution, and the difference of cognition to ensure iterative update and keep pace with the times. More often than not, we need to understand how big the cognitive deviation within the scope of management is, and at least the unity of cognition in specific management matters. Of course, it is also necessary to maintain the ability to update and avoid solidification and rigidity.

I've been observing and thinking about why there is such a big difference in cognition, and after writing "Assumption and Belief" last year, two more words jumped into my mind: Default and Logic, and I immediately felt that I had found the answer, and I always had the urge to write it, but I couldn't find it accurately. The context of expressing my views in a structured way is not very clear to this day, but I would like to point out these two words first, and hope to arouse everyone's thinking, and at the same time give me criticism, corrections and suggestions, so as to make the idea I build more rich and accurate.

01 Default

Let's start with default, which should be a superposition of innate instinct and acquired learning. Default is our personal default knowledge, experience, concepts, scenes, customs and judgments and other information, translated as "common sense" is more appropriate, everyone's common sense is different, because the degree of exchange of external information and the strengthening point of their own reserves are completely different.

The innate part of Default is easy to understand, most people like green grass and blue sky, spring breeze, warblers singing and dancing, and damp and cold will bring discomfort, and when a pointed object is facing you, you will also feel uncomfortable and want to leave the place or move that object away. These are basically in everyone's factory settings. Of course, there are differences, some people like to be surrounded by mountains, some people like the sea and the sky, and the perception and response to the outside world will be different depending on the factory settings. Some differences can be adjusted by nurture, while others stay with them for life.

Default's acquired learning is more abundant, family education, life experience, systematic learning, etc. will have an impact, and what we see, what we feel, and what we understand will adjust each of our cognitions all the time, but the adjustment range is different. For example, people with agricultural experience will have a deeper understanding of the changes in seasons and climate, and people along the coast will have more knowledge of fisheries, just as people who grew up in the mountains are more familiar with plants. This is the growth environment, and what determines our cognition is more experience, so there is an ancient adage of "reading thousands of books and traveling thousands of miles". Everyone wants to expand their own cognition, but everyone's cognition is limited, for the individual, there will be various limitations: time, economy, health and other limitations, for the whole, due to the relationship of lifespan, decades have to be restarted (Reset).

Default involves all aspects and all kinds of things, such as the purpose of doing things, some people are for power, some people are for profit, some people are for love, some people are righteous, some people are for supporting their families and down-to-earth, some people are going with the flow and following the crowd, and some people rely on their mission and carry their interests and .....; In terms of style, some people revolve around power, some rely on hard work, some believe in the current situation, and some believe in luck .....; In the business field, some people believe that soldiers are not tired of deception and are not afraid of treachery, and some people believe in the social division of labor and emphasize cooperation and mutual benefit. The world, all living beings, each with its own form, is too numerous to mention.

Default overlaps with Believe in the previous article, but it is more superficial and specific. For example, in the common sense of the north, there is no stuffing for steamed bread, if in Shanghai, the common sense of steamed bread is divided into meat steamed bread, vegetable steamed bread and white steamed bread, and the white steamed bread here is the steamed bread in the north. Different groups/individuals have different common sense about a thing, and there is no right or wrong, but in communication, we should pay attention to whether the common sense of the audience is the same. There is no debate about right or wrong in this regard, only whether it is right or not. Just as the word "gentleman" now mostly refers to men, whereas seventy or eighty years ago it was an honorific title for the learned.

Speaking of management, for an organization, the formation of a common Default is particularly important, this common sense should be the organizational culture, put at the enterprise level is the corporate culture. The word culture is somewhat empty, but only the word culture can cover the meaning that needs to be expressed with its connotation and extension, and it can also be used with organizational identity, that is, the values, goals and visions, organizational systems, evaluation standards, management styles, behavioral norms, organizational atmosphere, etc., which are commonly recognized by the organization.

Those who want the same up and down win, and those who work together are strong. We should pay attention to the construction of the common Default of the organization, which requires us to work the construction of culture, skill training, information disclosure, responsibility clarification, incentive fairness, leadership example, and sense of honor, which must be the process of reducing organizational entropy and improving cohesion, as well as the process of increasing efficiency and competitiveness.

Regarding Default, it is also extended that interlacing is like separating mountains, because the Default of each industry is different, and it is easy to see flowers and difficult to embroider. This is the tactical level, at the strategic level, the second curve and cross-border layout have become a hot word in recent years, but the development of the second curve is the accumulation of the same potential energy on the first curve, and the cross-border is the need to find a unified core competence in the old and new worlds, otherwise it is difficult to succeed.

Of course, success is difficult to define, so use twice the result with half the effort and twice the result with half the effort to distinguish between doing more with less and doing more with less. Because the benchmark point of Default in one industry may be regarded as an innovation point in another industry, even if you understand it wrongly, it will be embarrassing to be excited to tell customers about it.

Everyone's Default content also contains a certain Logic, so let's expand on it.

02 Logic

Let's talk about Logic, logic is a discipline that I have not studied specifically, and I can't clearly distinguish between the expressions of professional fields such as judgment logic and reasoning logic. This is just a general logic as the basis for our discussion. I believe that logic is a law, a general law derived from mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, economics, organizational behavior, psychology, and experience. Hence logic is also an equation that can be deduced based on conditions.

However, different people's knowledge structure is different, and the laws of judging a thing in their minds are also different, and the equations written are different, some think that the four operations will solve the problem, some need to use binary quadratic equations to solve, and some think that calculus is needed to find the answer.

In day-to-day management, a lot of friction is due to the different logic of the parties. Therefore, it is important to note that the premise and logic are not the same when discussing the problem. The most exaggerated is the Nanjing precedent: If you didn't hit a person, how could you help her? If it is an illiterate and hooligan who has such logic, it is understandable, but if it is a judge with a professional background who presides over social justice, it is indeed very illogical and does not conform to common sense.

Therefore, it breaks through the cognition of society and changes the cognition of society, because this incident changes the logic of the public's thinking and behavior. This is how the logic is changed and shaped by landmark events.

At the organizational level, at the tactical level, it is easy to form a common logical paradigm with professional standards, tools, methods and processes, and at the strategic level, the mechanism and process of decision-making, the accuracy and completeness of information, and the professionalism and occupation of the participants are all indispensable parts of the logical paradigm.

For example, the formulation of a strategy requires macro, meso-to-micro political and economic information, industry trends, data of friends and ecology, and the decomposition and analysis of internal resources. Of course, any logical paradigm needs to accept the challenge of different views and scenarios, and constantly supplement and improve it, so as to get closer to the real logic.

Nowadays, it is often said that "choice is more important than effort", and the basis of choice is your Default and Logic, Default gives more scenario-based and emotional judgments, while Logic gives more quantitative and rational analysis.

At this point, I feel a lot clearer: communicate with others, try to develop within the scope of each other's cognition, for myself, to expand the cognitive boundaries to maintain learning, and cross-border learning, cross-domain communication, expanding our own Default will help us enhance our understanding and tolerance, optimizing our own Logic will improve our judgment and density, for the group, we need internal members to complement and adjust each other's Default matters, and constantly optimize Logic, of which critical thinking is the foundation.

Another key element is information, and the truthfulness, openness and free flow of information play a decisive role in maintaining the accuracy of group cognition and collective IQ.
