Speaking of liaison, as you may all know, it mainly means that when two words in the same group of meanings, the first word ends with a consonant and the latter word begins with a vowel, then the two sounds will be read together. Like what:

Take it away.

Take in the previous sentence ends with consonant /k/, and it begins with the vowel/ɪ/. It ends with a consonant /t/, and away ends with a vowel/ə/, so the three words should have been pronounced like this:

[teɪk ɪt əˈweɪ]

But in actual communication, it will be read in two consecutive pairs:

[teɪ kɪ təˈweɪ]

However, in actual oral communication, there is also a common phenomenon of special consecutive reading.

Next, let's take a look at a clip from the 2001 comedy Mean Machine, starring British film star Winnie Jones:

Several special readouts appear in this fragment:

M1: Fight who?

M2: Fight him?

M1: I'm an ex-footballer, not a boxer.

M2: So? Kick him.

M1: That's why I'm here.

M2: Yeah?

If the regular pronunciation rules are followed, the "Fight him", "Kick him", and "I'm here" in the above three paragraphs of dialogue will not be read consecutively.

However, in actual oral communication, within the same group of meanings, when the current word ends in a consonant and the latter word begins with an "h+ vowel", this h is often "broken" and unprosentified. In this way, the result is that the consonant of the previous word is read directly in conjunction with the vowel of the next word.

So, the three small fragments above will occur break-through combo, read as:

[faɪ tɪm]

[kɪ kɪm]

[aɪ mɪə(r)]
