Recently, the list of winners of the 28th China Youth May Fourth Medal was announced, and 30 individuals and 20 collectives won awards, and the Tanzhesi Fire and Rescue Station in Mentougou District, Beijing was on the list. A reporter from Beijing Youth Daily learned that the fire station, which has been established for 15 years and has an average age of 28 years old, has successfully dealt with more than 2,000 emergencies and rescued more than 1,000 people while guarding the safety of the thousand-year-old temple Tanzhe Temple. In the "23.7" catastrophic flood disaster, the commanders and fighters of the Tanzhesi Fire and Rescue Station walked more than 100 kilometers for 5 days and 5 nights, traveled to many places, and rescued and transferred more than 680 trapped people.

The rescue journey back was full of dangers, and at the end of the day, I only cared about breakfast

"I had been a soldier in the south for many years before I came to the firefight, and I had to participate in flood fighting every year, but I had never seen such ferocious water as '23.7'. We went to move the old people who couldn't move, and if they were a little two minutes late, people and houses would be flooded. Xiong Yaozhi, a combatant at the Tanzhesi Fire and Rescue Station, said.

In July 2023, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region was hit by a once-in-a-century heavy rainfall, and due to the impact of this rainfall, Mentougou District became the hardest hit area of the flood, and the villages and towns around Tanzhe Temple were extremely severely affected. Guo Xiangkun, head of the Tanzhesi Fire and Rescue Station, told a reporter from Beiqing Daily that they have been carrying out rescue since July 30. On the evening of the 30th, Guo Xiangkun led the team out of the first police of the flood and went to the nearby Sangyu Village.

The more arduous rescue began on the morning of the 31st. At half past seven o'clock in the morning, the Tanzhesi Fire and Rescue Station received a police report that it was necessary to go to Hebei Town, Fangshan District for reinforcements, and the instructor Li Zhankun set off with the team members. "At that time, the flood was everywhere, and the water was so rapid that it had reached the windshield of the emergency vehicle. Zhou Wenqing, the assistant to the stationmaster who went out with Li Zhankun, drove the emergency car and did not dare to drive any further, and after asking for instructions, they stopped to avoid danger. After the rain subsided, the safety officer went to check the situation and found that the road ahead was broken, so he applied to return.

On the way back, Zhou Wenqing felt that he had experienced "nine deaths and one life". "Along the way, we encountered many road collapses and landslides. Zhou Wenqing told a reporter from Beiqing Daily that when he saw the good road disappearing into the turbulent river again and again, he felt very scared, "I thought that day, did I really have to explain here." ”

Starting from 7:30 in the morning, Li Zhankun and Zhou Wenqing tossed until 3 or 4 o'clock in the afternoon before returning to the station, and the other team members in the station did not have an easy day, almost all of them were rushing out to rescue. Seeing this scene, Li Zhankun and Zhou Wenqing didn't care about eating and resting, and immediately went to participate in other rescue operations. "We almost only had breakfast that day, and it was early the next morning when we returned to the team after the rescue. Zhou Wenqing said.

Wading through mountains and rivers to find someone for help, 5 minutes out of the village, walked for an hour

On July 31, Guo Xiangkun was "soaked" in the flood almost all day, and he went to Meadow Water Village to police not long after Li Zhankun and his party left. From the Tanzhesi Fire and Rescue Station to Meadow Water Village, you can go directly to Tanwang Road, but halfway through, the water is too deep for the fire truck to pass. "The whole road has become an ocean. Wang Yufei, the leader of the second special service squad who was driving the vehicle, said that when he saw this, he and Guo Xiangkun proposed to take the path they usually run on.

The trail was also not smooth, and along the way, the water kept rushing down the mountain, and when they reached the low-lying places, they had to walk into the village. "On the left hand side of the village is the river, on the right hand side is the slope protection, and when the mountain flood comes down, all the water is poured into the village at once. In the process of walking into the village, Guo Xiangkun and his family were besieged by the current, "It is not easy to enter the village, and you can't go back if you want to." Guo Xiangkun told a reporter from Beiqing Daily that they stood on the side of the road against the guardrail, and the water did not reach their knees in 3 minutes. In desperation, they had no choice but to find another way and climb to the side of the mountain.

When Guo Xiangkun and the others climbed to the side of the mountain and looked back, where they had just stood, the water had risen to the height of a two-story building, the telephone poles had been washed down, and several large iron houses had also been washed away.

At this time, Wang Yufei, who stayed to watch the car, and another team member were anxious that they could not contact the team members who had entered the village, and they met a village cadre who came out of Meadowshui Village to seek rescue. "A big man cried when he saw us, saying that the water had been poured into the village, and now many people need to be transferred, because the phone is not working, he can only take the risk to come out and ask for help. Hearing the man's cry for help, Wang Yufei and his team members used satellite phones to ask their superiors and walked to Meadow Water Village on foot.

When Guo Xiangkun and his entourage arrived at Meadow Water Village, the rain had already lightened, but the village had been divided into several pieces by the flood. Communication was interrupted, the police could not be contacted, Guo Xiangkun and the others could only ask from door to door, and they also worked with village cadres to persuade and help the villagers to transfer.

The firefighters of the Tanzhesi Fire Station helped to evacuate the villagers for two full days, and some elderly people who had difficulty moving were carried out by the firefighters. "Normally, it takes about five or six minutes to walk from the villager's house to the entrance of the village, but on that day, we had to walk for more than an hour each way. Guo Xiangkun said.

Crossing the river with the elderly and children to transfer the water was rushed and almost washed away by the flood

The rescue of the Tanshuyuan community is also a "big war". Affected by the flash flood, the road into the Tanshuyuan community was all washed away, and the firefighters of the Tanzhesi Fire and Rescue Station who received a request for help could only walk around the flood and hike 3 kilometers, taking advantage of the small flow of the river, Li Zhankun and his team members ventured across the nearly 20-meter-wide river and set up a ladder more than 5 meters long to climb into the community.

"At that time, all the roads into the community were broken, and the water in several buildings near the entrance of the community did not reach the first floor. Li Zhankun said that they were going to rescue a one-year-old child and two elderly people, but during the rescue process, more and more trapped people hoped that firefighters would take them out.

"But the current is very fast, and many of the people who need to be transferred are old and have difficulty moving, so we can only move them to higher places first, and then find a way to cross the river." Li Zhankun said they followed the same path they had come, waiting for the water to slow down, and then led them one by one across the river to the other side of the river, and then through the jungle and on foot to the main road.

While crossing the river, Li Zhankun encountered danger. "It was here, after sending them across the river, that I was almost washed away. "In a river next to the Tanshuyuan community where the water has dried up, Li Zhankun told a reporter from Beiqing Daily that when he crossed the river, he first sent his children to the other side of the river, and then returned to pick up others. Li Zhankun said that fortunately, the team members on the shore pulled him back.

It is understood that during the flood, many commanders and fighters of the Tanzhesi Fire and Rescue Station worked for 5 days and 5 nights, walked more than 100 kilometers, overcame various difficulties and obstacles, and traveled to more than 10 communities and villages such as Nanxinfang Village to search for the trapped people, and rescued and transferred more than 680 trapped people. At the same time, more than 500 tons of flood drainage, more than 1,500 square meters of dredging and obstacle removal, more than 900 tons of water delivery, and more than 30 tons of materials were transported.

Guarding the thousand-year-old temple for 15 years, I know the situation of the scenic spot well

In addition to the thrilling rescue and disaster relief, the Tanzhesi Fire and Rescue Station also has many tasks. "There is Tanzhe Temple first, and then there is Youzhou City." Built in the first year of Emperor Yongjia of the Western Jin Dynasty, Tanzhe Temple is a national key protected cultural relics unit, and its historical and cultural relics value is immeasurable. Because most of the buildings in the temple are brick and wood structures, surrounded by mountains and forests, fire is the biggest threat, and protecting the fire safety of the thousand-year-old temple Tanzhe Temple is one of the important tasks of the Tanzhesi Fire Rescue Station.

In view of the characteristics of the Tanzhe Temple scenic spot, the Tanzhe Temple Fire and Rescue Station has formulated a working mechanism of "daily inspection, weekly inspection, monthly inspection" and irregular inspection of festival activities. Every day, two commanders and fighters will be arranged to conduct fire safety inspections on the scenic spot, and regularly organize staff and monks in the temple to carry out fire knowledge training, to ensure that fire hazards are found and rectified, and to ensure that the staff and monks in the temple master the basic fire prevention knowledge and initial fire fighting skills. Especially when tourists gather during key periods, the commanders and fighters continue to inspect and inspect 635 temples, 34 fire hydrants and 268 fire extinguishers one by one. The members of the Tanzhesi Fire and Rescue Station are familiar with the temple, route distribution, fire hydrants, fire extinguishers and water source locations.

At the same time, the fire rescue station also combines the characteristics of large ancient buildings, high buildings, limited road conditions, large and heavy fire fighting vehicles difficult to reach the fire scene to carry out operations, and it is difficult to fight fires, etc., and puts the "small, fast and smart" equipment into the actual combat drill of fire fighting and rescue, aiming to test the scientificity and feasibility of the fire fighting and rescue emergency response plan, do a good job in the rescue of cultural relics and ancient buildings, and improve the actual combat ability of fire prevention and control and fire fighting and rescue.

Over the past 15 years, under the all-weather, seamless and uninterrupted loyal protection of all the commanders and fighters of the fire and rescue station, there has not been a single fire and smoke in the Tanzhe Temple, a national cultural treasure and a thousand-year-old ancient temple.

For the Chinese Youth May Fourth Medal, Li Zhankun, who has been working in Tanzhe Temple since graduation in 2015, said that this honor belongs to everyone in the Tanzhesi Fire and Rescue Station, and in the next work, they will continue to carry forward the spirit of "May Fourth", strict training, strict requirements, save the people from fire and water, help the people in danger, give the people strength, and better serve the people.
