According to the statistics of the China Association for Science and Technology, the proportion of citizens with scientific literacy in Guangzhou is 20.8%, ranking among the highest in the country.

Every year, the city organizes and carries out brand activities such as Guangzhou science popularization tour, academician and expert campus tour, citizen science quality competition, science caravan tour, etc., with a cumulative audience of more than 80 million people, and the Guangzhou National Science Popularization Day Science Carnival has been rated as "National Science Popularization Day Excellent Activity" by the China Association for Science and Technology for 8 consecutive years. The first is to highlight resource sharing and build a brand. Carry out the "Science Popularization Open Day" activity with resources covering the whole city and the time span of the whole year, and regularly organize national and provincial key laboratories, high-tech enterprises and science popularization bases at all levels in Guangzhou to be open to the public free of charge every month, with a total of 230 science popularization resource units participating, and more than 10 million online and offline participants, so as to better meet the needs of the public for science popularization public services. The second is to enrich the methods and means to innovate the brand. It has successively cultivated brand activities such as Guangzhou Science Popularization Tour, Science Popularization Forum, Citizen Science Quality Competition, Science Caravan Tour, "Science Experiment Show Challenge", etc., and created "Doctor of Science" science popularization IP, with a cumulative audience of more than 80 million people, and the Guangzhou National Science Popularization Day Science Carnival has been rated as "National Science Popularization Day Excellent Activity" by the China Association for Science and Technology for 8 consecutive years. The third is to optimize the brand around key groups. More than 120 academicians and experts have been invited to the campuses of primary and secondary schools in Guangzhou to spread the spirit of science and popularize scientific knowledge. Relying on the "Beautiful Rural Science Popularization Tour" to carry out the work of popularizing science and benefiting farmers, 160 villages with popular science characteristics have been built, and nearly 700 rural popular science activities have been carried out for more than 300 villages, benefiting nearly 1 million farmers. 27 "Community Silver Age Science Popularization Classrooms" have been set up in the city, which are well received by the elderly, with an online and offline audience of about 300,000 people.
Highlight the function of educating people and build a strong infrastructure for popular science
Pay attention to educating people as an important guide for the construction of popular science facilities, integrate the construction of party building positions and popular science venues, and educate ideas in science education. The first is to build the Guangzhou Science Museum in an all-round way. Focusing on telling the stories of science, scientists, and innovation, we will promote the construction of a world-class science center and cultural tourism landmark that represents the city's image, highlights Guangzhou's urban taste, and highlights Guangzhou's science and technology and innovative development. The second is to optimize and upgrade the Guangzhou Youth Science and Technology Museum. Focusing on building a red research base and stimulating young people's love for the party and patriotism, we organized and planned high-quality exhibitions such as the theme exhibition of "All Hearts to the Party and Self-reliance and Self-improvement - Scientists under the Leadership of the Party", the "Building Dreams of Deep Blue with Sea Charts" Navigation Science Exhibition, and the "East Wind and Thunder" National Defense Education Theme Exhibition, with an annual increase of 300% in visitors compared with before the upgrade, realizing "small venues with great achievements and new vitality from old venues". The third is to strengthen the construction of popular science education bases. Focusing on the comprehensive display of the achievements of industrial science and technology development in the new era, we will promote the construction and development of a number of small thematic science and technology museums with local and industrial characteristics. Guangzhou has 33 national-level popular science education bases, 228 provincial-level popular science education bases, and 225 municipal-level popular science bases. Up to now, the city's popular science base has carried out more than 23,000 online and offline popular science activities, serving 167 million people, and has become a gathering place for popular science activities.
Strengthen all-media communication and deepen the effectiveness of science popularization
Singing the main theme and strengthening positive energy is an important part of party building work. The party group of the Association for Science and Technology focuses on the requirements of science popularization in the all-media era, promotes the innovation and upgrading of organization and mobilization, communication methods, content services, etc., and forms a Guangzhou science popularization communication pattern of "alliance support + matrix communication + high-quality content", and makes scientific contributions to the consolidation and expansion of mainstream ideology and public opinion. The first is to build alliances and aggregate communication resources. Integrate the popular science resources of more than 60 institutions such as Guangzhou media, universities, scientific research institutes, and science and technology enterprises, and build a Guangzhou Science and Technology Communication Alliance integrating resource sharing, exchange and cooperation, and academic research. Relying on the alliance, it has carried out more than 10 activities such as the learning and publicity of the "Top Ten Science Communication Talents in Guangzhou" and the annual collection of "Guangzhou Science and Technology Communication Power", with an audience of more than 5 million people. The second is to build a matrix to expand the influence of communication. In recent years, the matrix has published more than 7,500 practical popular science tweets/videos, with an audience of more than 130 million people on the whole network, effectively enhancing the influence of popular science. In response to the needs of different groups, we have incubated high-quality content of popular science communication, such as the series of original popular science videos of "Doctor of Science Laboratory", which has been viewed by more than 14 million people, and has been on the homepage of the "Watch Science and Technology" channel of the main station of learning power. "Crispy Honey" (an interesting popular science video on the theme of rural revitalization) has been played nearly 11 million times on the Douyin platform. "Our Decade", "Through a Hundred Years of Science and Technology Dream" and other works won the second prize of the Guangdong Provincial Science Popularization Works Creation Competition.
Adhere to the party's management of talents and stimulate the vitality of the science popularization team
Always put talents in an important position in the work of popular science, focus on building a combination of full-time and part-time, excellent quality, and extensive coverage of the popular science work team, promote the construction of popular science talents at different levels, and lay a solid foundation for the development of popular science. The first is to give play to the leading role of academicians and experts. Carry out the "100 academicians and 100 science popularization" initiative activities, mobilize academicians and experts to drive more scientific and technological workers, and do in-depth and extensive science popularization work. Strengthen the construction of the Guangzhou Science Popularization Expert Database and Guangzhou Science Popularization Famous Teachers, select 220 "Science Popularization Famous Teachers", including 15 academicians, and promote the inclusion of science popularization talent projects in Guangzhou's "Gathering Talents Program". The second is to improve the system of scientific and technological volunteer service. The "Implementation Plan for Strengthening Science and Technology Volunteer Service in Guangzhou" was issued to promote the professional, standardized and normalized development of science and technology volunteer service. The establishment of Guangzhou Science Popularization Volunteer Association, Guangzhou Academician Expert Science and Technology Volunteer Service Team, Guangzhou Rural Revitalization Science and Technology Volunteer Service Team and other science and technology volunteer teams, and gradually form a city, district, street (town), community (village) four-level science and technology volunteer service system.
