What national defense knowledge do we need to know?

01 What is national defense

National defense refers to the military activities carried out by the state to guard against and resist aggression, stop armed subversion, and defend the country's sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and security, as well as military-related political, economic, diplomatic, scientific, technological, and educational activities.

02 What is the nature of the continent's defense

The nature of the mainland's national defense mainly includes three aspects:

First, the mainland is a socialist country, all state power belongs to the people, and defending the motherland is the sacred duty of all Chinese people, that is, our national defense is the national defense of the people of the whole country.

Second, we adhere to an independent foreign policy, pursue the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, and the mainland's national defense is not affected by foreign forces and is not allied with any country or group of countries, that is, our national defense is an independent national defense.

Third, the mainland is a developing country, and we will never be a superpower or engage in hegemonism, and we do not want an inch of land from any country, nor will we allow any country to encroach on an inch of land on the mainland. That is, our national defense is a self-defense national defense that is actively defensive.

The "National Defense Education Law of the People's Republic of China" consists of six chapters and 38 articles.

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress has designated the third Saturday of September every year as the National Defense Education Day.

The core of national defense education is patriotism.

The National Defense Education Law of the People's Republic of China was deliberated and adopted by the Fifth Session of the Eighth National People's Congress on March 14, 1997.

Article 12 of the "National Defense Law" stipulates that the mainland's national defense construction shall be under the leadership and management of the State Council.

Article 13 of the National Defense Law stipulates that the armed forces of the whole country shall be under the leadership of the Central Military Commission.

Article 22 of the National Defense Law stipulates that the armed forces of the People's Republic of China shall be composed of the active and reserve forces of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, the Chinese People's Armed Police Force and the militia.

Through national defense education, the state enables citizens to enhance their national defense concepts, master basic national defense knowledge, learn necessary military skills, arouse patriotic enthusiasm, and consciously fulfill their national defense obligations.

The mainland's relevant military laws include the "National Defense Law," the "National Defense Education Law," the "Civil Air Defense Law," the "Military Installation Protection Law," the "Military Service Law," the "Active-Duty Officers Law," and the "Reserve Officers Law."

The militia on the mainland is divided into ordinary militia and basic militia.

03 What is national defense policy

National defense policy is a guideline formulated for the building and use of a country's armed forces and other activities related to national defense in accordance with the country's political system, economic base, geographical environment, national defense relations, and other circumstances. The mainland's national defense policy is subordinate to and serves the state's general policy, and its basic ideas are: The state should build and consolidate national defense independently and independently, practice an active defense strategy, and adhere to the principle of self-defense by the whole people; while concentrating its efforts on economic construction, the state should strengthen national defense construction and promote the coordinated development of national defense construction and economic construction. Specifically, it means strengthening the building of necessary national defense forces, safeguarding national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security, striving for a peaceful and stable national defense environment, safeguarding the people's peaceful labor, ensuring the smooth progress of socialist modernization, upholding the defense principle of peace and independence, never engaging in aggression and expansion, pursuing the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence in foreign affairs, and cooperating in friendship with all countries, not being dependent on any major power, and not forming alliances with them.

04 What is national defense education?

It refers to the propaganda and education of all citizens on a certain outlook on war, national security, interests, and national defense knowledge, so that citizens can enhance their national defense concepts, master basic national defense knowledge, learn necessary military skills, stimulate patriotic enthusiasm, and consciously fulfill national defense obligations.

05 Why should we conduct national defense education?

National Defense Law of the People's Republic of China (Excerpt)

1. In order to build and consolidate national defense and ensure the smooth progress of socialist modernization, the "National Defense Law of the People's Republic of China" is formulated in accordance with the Constitution.

2. The National Defense Law of the People's Republic of China shall apply to military activities carried out by the State to guard against and resist aggression, stop armed subversion, and defend the country's sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and security, as well as military-related political, economic, diplomatic, scientific, technological, and educational activities.

3. The President of the People's Republic of China, in accordance with the decisions of the National People's Congress and the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, declares a state of war, issues mobilization orders, and exercises other functions and powers in the field of national defense as stipulated in the Constitution.

4. The armed forces of the People's Republic of China belong to the people. Its tasks are to consolidate national defense, resist aggression, defend the motherland, defend the peaceful labor of the people, participate in the cause of national construction, and serve the people wholeheartedly.

5. The active-duty units of the Chinese People's Liberation Army are the state's standing army, mainly responsible for defensive combat tasks, and may, when necessary, assist in maintaining social order in accordance with the provisions of law; reserve forces shall conduct training in peacetime in accordance with regulations, and when necessary, may assist in maintaining social order in accordance with law; and in wartime they shall be converted into active-duty units in accordance with the mobilization order issued by the state.

National Defense Education Law of the People's Republic of China (Excerpt)

1. The "National Defense Education Law of the People's Republic of China" was formulated in accordance with the National Defense Law and the Education Law for the purpose of popularizing and strengthening national defense education, carrying forward the spirit of patriotism, and promoting national defense construction and the building of socialist spiritual civilization. Adopted by the 21st Session of the Standing Committee of the Ninth National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China on April 28, 2001, and promulgated by Order of the President of the People's Republic of China (No. 52), it shall come into force on the date of promulgation.

2. National defense education implements the principle of participation by the whole people, long-term persistence, and emphasis on practical results, implements the principles of combining regular education with centralized education, general education with key education, and theoretical education with behavioral education, and determines the corresponding educational content for different targets.

3. The state supports and encourages social organizations and individuals to carry out activities beneficial to national defense education. The state and society shall commend and reward organizations and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the work of national defense education in various forms.

4. The State encourages social organizations and individuals to provide or donate their collections of physical objects of national defense education significance for national defense education. The user unit shall properly keep the physical objects provided for use, and return them in a timely manner after use.
