The scope of work of a speech therapist
Speech disorders
Speech is characterized by difficulty in pronunciation, vocal production, disruption of airflow, or problems with speech prosody. Typical ones are dysarthria, dysphonia, and stuttering.
language barrier
Refers to the difficulty in the use of words in both spoken and non-spoken processes in context. Typical examples are aphasia, language delay, apraxia of speech, and right hemisphere syndrome of the brain.
Dysphagia
Difficulty eating is caused by impaired function of the jaw, lips, tongue, soft palate, throat, esophageal sphincter, or esophagus, and is characterized by an impaired delivery of food from the mouth to the stomach. Common symptoms include frequent choking on water, drooling, eating for too long, and difficulty swallowing.
Cognitive dysfunction
Cognitive impairment refers to the impairment of one or more functions in memory, attention, language, execution, reasoning, calculation, orientation and other areas, which can affect the social function and quality of life of patients to varying degrees, and there are mainly two types of cognitive impairment and dementia.
Specific content of treatment techniques
Speech training: One-on-one speech training is conducted by therapists from the Rehabilitation Department of Qianwei County Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the patient's dysarthria, breathing training and cognitive and behavioral ability are trained by arthriatric software and treatment technology, so as to improve the quality of life of the patient and his family members.
Oral muscle training: Oral motor function training is carried out to train the patient's oral muscle movement, train the patient's mandible, lip and tongue muscle strength and control, improve pronunciation and eating.
Physiotherapy: Neuromuscular electrical stimulation, transcranial magnetic and other physical factors to promote the recovery of patients.
The earlier the speech training starts, the better the effect, which is a gradual process, which requires rehabilitation therapists to set up a suitable language environment to achieve two-way communication with patients and strengthen their enthusiasm and initiative.
Rehabilitation is a long-term and arduous task, which not only requires professional training and guidance, but also needs to help build patients' confidence in recovery. The speech barrier is not terrible, what is really terrible is the compromise of the illness. With accurate assessment and effective training, I believe that our patients can get rid of "insincerity" as soon as possible!
