There are several different theories and legends about the origin of the name Huangguoshu Waterfall. It is said that there are reports that kudzu trees can bear fruit directly without flowering, which is similar to the properties of figs. I have seen and eaten the banyan fruit of the yellow kudzu tree, saying that the fruit of the yellow kudzu tree is ripe and turns red, it is edible, not sweet, not sour, not bitter, not astringent, it tastes a little glutinous, not unpalatable, and it is not delicious.
It is said that the kudzu tree is very different from other trees in that it loses its leaves every year at the time when it was first planted, that is, when the tree is planted, it also returns when it leaves falls. If the tree is planted in the spring, then most of the leaves of the kudzu tree are also lost in the spring. And the leaves of the yellow fruit tree are not the same as other trees, it sheds leaves while sending out new shoots, the old and the new alternate at the same time, the old leaves fall late, the new leaves also grow, and the bare time on the branches of the yellow fruit tree is very little. So kudzu is a species between deciduous and evergreen, that is, the wintergreen species.
There are three varieties of kudzu trees: large-leaved kudzu, two-leaved kudzu and willow-leaved kudzu. The characteristic of the yellow kudzu tree is that it grows young leaves as soon as the leaves are dropped, the large-leaved yellow kudzu tree generally loses its leaves in late autumn and early winter, and the two-leaf and willow-leaved yellow kudzu trees mostly lose their leaves in mid-spring and early summer. As early as the Song Dynasty, Huangge Wandu has become one of the eight scenic spots in Yuzhou, showing the important position of Huangge tree in ancient culture. Huangge trees have also been used to name many place names, such as Huangge Mountain, Huangge Town, etc., which have been used to this day.
