The large aircraft is known as the jewel in the crown of industry, and is a concentrated embodiment of a country's scientific and technological capabilities, industrial level and comprehensive strength. The commercial operation and mass production of the domestic civil aircraft C919 will drive the development of the entire aircraft manufacturing industry chain.

The large aircraft industry chain is mainly composed of airframe manufacturing, power plant, airborne systems, parts, raw materials and other parts. Among them, the manufacturing value of the fuselage accounts for about 1/3, including the nose, fuselage, aircraft, hatch, etc., which are mainly undertaken by the enterprises of the aviation industry, with a high degree of localization. At present, the power unit is mainly supported by foreign enterprises, and it is expected to use domestic commercial aero engines in the future.

The high profit margins of airborne system products are attracting a large number of high-tech companies to invest in this field. Parts and components include forging and casting, standard parts, electronic components, etc., including a number of private enterprises including domestic enterprises to participate in a large number of enterprises, these enterprises in the process of supporting C919, both to obtain orders and to achieve technological breakthroughs. In terms of raw materials, including aluminum alloys, composite materials, titanium alloys, high-strength steels, etc., a number of enterprises such as Chinalco and Baosteel assume important responsibilities.

On November 29, 2023, the Civil Aviation Administration of China issued a production license (PC) for the C919 large passenger aircraft to COMAC. Obtaining the production license is an important milestone for the C919 large passenger aircraft from the design and development stage to the mass production stage, marking a solid step towards the industrialization of the C919 large passenger aircraft.

The design and development of C919 is mainly undertaken by scientific research institutes and universities, including Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Harbin Institute of Technology, etc.

In terms of suppliers, COMAC's suppliers are currently divided into two main categories. Class I suppliers include AVIC Electromechanical, Sichuan Kyushu, AVIC Optoelectronics, AVIC Shenfei, AVIC Xifei, Zhongzhi Co., Ltd., Hongdu Aviation, AVIC Electronics; III. Suppliers include AVIC Heavy Machinery, China Satellite, Baoti Co., Ltd., Fushun Special Steel Co., Ltd., and Yinbang Co., Ltd.

According to data from COMAC, in December 2022, the first C919 large passenger aircraft was delivered to the first user, China Eastern Airlines, taking the "first step" in market operation. By the end of 2022, the C919 had received a total of 1,035 orders from 32 customers.

The new ARJ21 regional jet was delivered to its first overseas customer, Indonesia Lingya Airlines, in December 2022. By the end of 2022, ARJ21 had received a total of 690 orders from 25 customers, delivered a total of 100 aircraft to 9 domestic and foreign customers, safely transported nearly 6 million passengers, operated 316 routes, and navigated 118 cities.

According to the Institute of Aviation Economics of the Civil Aviation University of China, if calculated according to the life cycle of civil aircraft of 10 years, the contribution ratio of large aircraft to China's economic added value is 1..86, and the employment contribution ratio is 1..9.6.

For example, Li Xiaojin said that the "shells" on the outside of the nose, fuselage, tail and wings of the C919 came from China's Chengfei, Hongdu, Shenfei, Xifei and other enterprises, and nearly 300,000 people in various fields participated in the development of the C919 large aircraft, cultivating a group of local talents in the field of civil aircraft manufacturing.

According to expert analysis, based on the current input-output ratio of large aircraft of 1..80, under the condition of maintaining the current C919 localization rate, domestic large aircraft are expected to bring a market size of trillions of yuan to industrial chain enterprises. With the increase of localization rate, it will drive the industrial chain and supply chain to a new level and inject new development impetus into China's aviation industry.

The "Green Aviation Manufacturing Industry Development Outline (2023-2035)" proposes that by 2035, a green aviation manufacturing system with integrity, advancement and safety will be built, new energy aircraft will become the mainstream of development, and the safety, environmental protection, economy and comfort of domestic civil aircraft will reach the world-class level, and the new general aviation equipment with unmanned, electrified and intelligent technical characteristics will be commercialized and applied on a large scale.

The large-scale production of domestic large aircraft will help build and improve the continental aviation manufacturing industry chain and inject development momentum into the industrial chain companies. Assuming that in the next 20 years, the proportion of domestic commercial aircraft received in China will be 25%, and the market capacity will exceed 2 trillion yuan.
