Recently, South Korea was excluded from the G7 summit, which caused heated discussions among netizens. Although the Yoon Suk-yeol government racked its brains in order to participate in the meeting smoothly. However, this self-proclaimed "global pivot country" finally ate the "closed door" of the G7.
According to a number of South Korean media reports, South Korea has been in communication with Italy, the host country of this year, in the fight to participate in the G7 summit, but this time, Italy still excluded South Korea.
Although the South Korean president's office forcibly explained that Italy did not invite South Korea this year because it wanted to focus on the target countries of Africa and the Mediterranean related to the migration issue, it was quickly slapped in the face by Reuters. According to the media report, Tunisia, Kenya, Algeria and South Africa, which Italy plans to invite, do meet the "target countries" of South Korea's population, but Italy may also invite countries "outside Africa and the Mediterranean" such as India, Brazil and Argentina. Obviously, the South Korean presidential office's explanation could not hide its embarrassment at all.
Frankly speaking, Yoon Suk-yeol uses Asian cultural thinking to figure out the thinking of Western countries, which is very naïve in itself. I think that if I "kneel and lick" to the West with all my heart, I will be accepted. As everyone knows, the more you behave without bones, the more Westerners look down on you. What they believe in their bones is that the strong are respected.
Since 2020, South Korea has participated in three G7 summits, two of which were invited by the United States and Britain to Moon Jae-in, and once by Yoon Suk-yeol invited by Japan. Let's not forget that Yoon Suk-yeol was able to receive Japan's invitation because Japan was trying to cooperate with the strategic deployment of the Americans. Later, Yin Xiyue did not have this treatment, and he ate two "closed doors" during his reign.
What is even more ironic is that a South Korean diplomat told the media that the Yoon Suk-yeol government at that time mobilized all diplomatic resources in order to be able to participate in the G7 summit held by Germany, but still did not receive an invitation.
The above incident is enough to show that Moon Jae-in's use of balanced diplomacy is neither humble nor arrogant towards the United States and the West, so that South Korea has received due respect and made itself its own protagonist. And Yin Xiyue unilaterally "knelt and licked" the United States and Japan, but he couldn't even play a supporting role, and he was a piece of leftovers to death.
Finally, I would like to make three superficial comments on this matter.
First, the South Korean government's mentality of wanting to join the G7 has become increasingly urgent. In order to realize this wish, Yoon Suk-yeol even did not hesitate to sacrifice public opinion, did not demand an apology and compensation from Japan for historical issues, as well as offended Russia, sent 155 shells to the battlefield in Ukraine, and so on.
Second, Biden's attitude towards Japan and South Korea is "different from each other". Since the Biden administration took office, we have often seen Japan in the "small circle" it has formed. And South Korea is basically tied to Japan. To put it bluntly, if the United States really attaches importance to South Korea, how dare the G7 rotating countries give Yoon Suk-yeol a "closed door" one after another?
Third, over the years, South Korea's national character and dignity have been trampled under the feet of Western countries, and it is time for the South Korean government to wake up. "Kneeling and licking" can't exchange trust and respect, Yin Xiyue lives in his own imaginary world without knowing it, and will only become a joke after tea and dinner all over the world.
