Recently, Mondelēz China will launch its first flexible paper packaging product. Mondelēz International said it aims to achieve 100% recyclable design for its packaging and a 5% reduction in virgin plastic use by 2025.
FMCG has learned that in mid-May this year, Mondelēz will launch a new mini Oreo product, which will be the first product in Mondelēz's biscuit category in Asia, the Middle East and Africa to use flexible paper packaging, which is an important milestone for Mondelēz to replace virgin plastic film with flexible paper.
During development, Mondelēz and its suppliers developed and tested substrates with different physical properties for specific drop and puncture test methods for flexible papers, simulating real-world conditions as closely as possible. In order to improve the quality of the sealing, Mondelēz applied a special heat seal coating to the paper to achieve heat sealing performance, and in order to improve the quality of the heat seal, it also changed from the solid coating process that is customary in the industry to a more challenging local coating process, which controls costs and is more environmentally friendly. In terms of printing technology, flexible paper packaging adopts flexographic printing technology of water-based ink.
In the future, Mondelēz will continue to explore and promote more sustainable packaging solutions to reduce environmental impact and provide consumers with safe and environmentally friendly product choices.
