Recently, a news that two girls were lost in a playground in Phnom Penh for more than 24 hours and were unclaimed spread rapidly on local social media in Cambodia.
According to video surveillance inside the playground, the two girls were brought into the playground by a woman around the afternoon of April 15, after which the woman left and left them in the playground.
The relationship between the woman and the two girls is unclear at this time, and the fact that she was paid in cash when she purchased her tickets meant that the amusement park could not contact her.
Although there is no conclusive evidence, many people agree that the two girls were purposefully and systematically "abandoned" in the playground.
However, even if these two girls are finally confirmed to be "abandoned", this is not the first "abandoned child" incident that happened to Chinese compatriots.
Prior to this, a young woman from Kampong Thom Province had fallen in love with three Chinese men and had three children, but because the man was unwilling to be responsible for her when he returned to China, she had to send the children back to Kampong Thom Province to be raised by her grandparents, and the current life of the two elderly people and three children has long been beyond their means.
This incident was not only frantically reported by many local media, but also pushed the majority of compatriots in Cambodia, especially male compatriots, to the forefront of local public opinion.
For a time, the majority of netizens were condemning the three Chinese men for "disregarding humanity, abandoning their wives and children, and being irresponsible".
However, the "irresponsible" incident is not limited to Cambodia: on April 18, a well-known self-media person broke the news that after a Chinese man made a Vietnamese girl pregnant, he not only did not want to be responsible for the woman, but impatiently demanded that she must kill the child.
Whether in Cambodia or other countries in Southeast Asia, such things have long been common: the Chinese men involved not only ignore morality and wantonly abuse local women, but even their own country's female compatriots;
One of the most important reasons is the low barrier to entry in Southeast Asia and the "aura of foreigners" that come with them when they go abroad.
Taking Cambodia as an example, many compatriots who come from China to work here earn no less than $1,000 a month, and compared with the average salary of locals of less than $300 a month, compatriots who go to Cambodia can be said to be definitely a high-income group here.
Although the vast majority of compatriots choose to work and live in a down-to-earth manner, some people may have been just a low-level worker with a meager income in China before they came, but after coming to Cambodia, although their income has doubled, they have shown the most humble and weak side of their hearts:
Some of them have difficulty solving the other half of the problem at home, and they are more presumptuous after coming to Cambodia;
Some people are subject to law and morality at home, and completely "let themselves go" after going abroad;
Others were very inappropriate in China before, and simply "copied and pasted" their previous lifestyle to Cambodia.
Although it cannot be denied that they do live a "chic and comfortable" life, their behavior not only makes the woman and children suffer unfair treatment, but also affects many decent and conscientious male compatriots in Cambodia.
Just like the woman who left the two girls in the playground, although everyone thinks that she chose to "abandon" with a purpose and a plan, is there a possibility that she is also a victim herself? Since she can't afford to raise these two children, she has no choice but to let them "fend for themselves"?
However, what the facts are, we still need to wait for a follow-up objective and fair investigation.
An industry insider engaged in paternity testing told reporters that for similar "abandonment" cases, if the child's father or mother is a Chinese citizen, biological samples such as the child's blood and hair can be collected and sent back to China, and after being identified by an authoritative identification center, the case can be reported to the public security organ to find their biological parents.
However, even if the biological parents of the two girls can be found in the end, some compatriots still have the luck mentality of "who knows what you did in Cambodia when you return home", and maybe there will be more and more such things.
