On March 9, 2022, a fire broke out in Zhongjingmen International Trade Community, Zhangheng Road, Nanyang City, Henan Province. The fire was caused by a cable well, and because the cable well was not blocked, the smoke in the building continued to spread upward, resulting in many residents upstairs having to call for help at the window. Fortunately, the rescue was timely and the fire caused no casualties.
On December 6, 2021, a cable well in Diwang International Community, Lingui District, Guilin City, Guangxi Province caught fire, and thick smoke billowed from the corridor. Fire and rescue personnel successfully evacuated 19 residents in the building and extinguished the fire, but fortunately there were no casualties.

According to the "Regulations on Fire Safety Management of High-rise Civil Buildings" Chapter III Fire Safety Management
Article 20 Vertical tube wells and cable trays such as cable wells and pipeline wells of high-rise civil buildings shall be fireproof at each floor slab, and the inspection door of the tube well shall be fireproof.
It is forbidden to occupy cable wells and pipeline wells, or to pile up sundries in vertical tube wells such as cable wells and pipeline wells.
