Then put it in the movie to understand, it is a place that is like a dream, a middle ground between reality and dreams. Here people's consciousness has been blurred, it is difficult to distinguish whether they are in reality or dreams, it is extremely easy to confuse.

Since the strong sedative does not affect the function of the inner ear balance, kick is still suitable. The climax of the film is a continuous synchronized Kick. Except for the protagonist Cobb and the Japanese businessman Saito, everyone else returns to the dream of the first layer layer by means of synchronous kicking.

However, it should be noted that Kick cannot be separated, that is, the Kick of the first layer of dreams cannot wake up the dreamers who are still in the third layer of dreams. This is what the so-called "miss the kick" in the movie missed the opportunity to wake up. Because when the pharmacist drove down the bridge, Cobb and the others in the snow were still dreaming in the hotel, so that they would not wake up from the van.

But the question arises, when the van rushed off the bridge, why didn't Arthur wake up?

Hearing a lot of explanations is that kick must be done on both sides at the same time, that is, synchronous Kick, and the film does create a series of fall scenes at the last minute. But this point, the film does not explain clearly, only Cobb said a sentence "The key point is the awakening of the synchronized dream". If this explains the setting of both sides at the same time, it seems a bit sloppy, and don't forget that the inception mission at the beginning of the film is also a multiple dream, but there is no need for both sides to be kicked at the same time, and Cobb can wake up when he falls into the bathtub, how can this be explained? But have you ever thought that using a gyroscope as a totem really has an effect? In the movie, the top falling down means reality, and the top constantly means dream. Ask who doesn't know that the top will fall. But this totem has no effect on Cobb alone.

Because the gyroscope is made by himself, in the dream he can build how he wants to build, if he judges that he is in the dream, his subconscious will create a constant spinning gyroscope. And when he judges himself to be in reality, his subconscious creates a gyroscope that can fall. Therefore, it is also ineffective for so many people to guess whether the gyroscope is still in the dream or not.

Therefore, a more reliable statement is to see if Cobb wears a ring, and the ring is Cobb's totem.
