If today's innovation is primarily about collaboration and communication, then the place where people meet is the most important space in the innovation process. It's no secret that unintentional communication can often be inspiring, and the best gatherings often happen in the kitchen. Nivea's parent company, Beiersdorf, has a café and a restaurant on campus.

Staff cafeteria?
Canteen? Communication Hub!
If today's innovation is primarily about collaboration and communication, then the place where people meet is the most important space in the innovation process. It's no secret that unintentional communication can often be inspiring, especially during a casual conversation over coffee and snacks – the best gatherings often happen in the kitchen.
The Beiersdorf Group's Workshop Café and Campus Restaurant show that a transparent, networked and lively communication hub can add color to flexible working styles. As the centerpiece of the headquarters, the new entrance design not only has a great impact on the company's interior, but also expresses Beiersdorf's values and culture to the outside world.
01/
A culture of hospitality with open arms
A welcoming culture that embraces
As part of the reorganization of the Beiersdorf campus in Hamburg, a new work campus was added. This campus not only spatially reflects the working philosophy of all levels of the group, but also uses communication as a driving force for innovation and practices the collective spirit.
With a total area of 51,000 square meters, 4,000 square meters of which are collaborative spaces, 3,200 office spaces are available and a flexible working environment for approximately 3,000 employees. It breaks down the planning process, leaves room for unexpected encounters, and celebrates diversity. (PS: The design of the office area of this project will be shared separately in the near future~)
At the heart of the campus is the "Entrance Level", which is also home to the Workshop Café and Campus Cafeteria. Here, the designers have created an open environment where employees and visitors have the opportunity to communicate easily throughout the day, and where everyone benefits from an accepting attitude.
The design of the district not only reflects the importance of the Group as a whole, but also inspires a sense of identity among its employees, revitalizes the environment, and truly fulfills the Beiersdorf Group's corporate mission of "Care Beyond Skin", fostering new ideas and new creations together.
02/
Diversity promotes wholeness
Diversity that promotes community
In order to create a unified image of the space, we translated Beiersdorf's core values of care, simplicity, courage and trust into interior design, using natural materials and plants as a means to express personality with a sense of comfort, simple geometry and, above all, skin-like motifs.
Shades of diffusion complement the company's blue and white tones to form a unified design language. The spacious reception area in the center serves as an open structure, revealing the workshop café behind it. Located deep on the ground floor, the park's restaurant uses warm, changing tones to create an almost gentle touch, like an intimate hug.
The upright, translucent structure divides the café with room partitions suspended from a carved wood ceiling, while the irregular cascading structure of the ceiling adds to the restaurant's tranquil atmosphere.
03/
Encounters in Gaps
Encounters in interstitial spaces
Cafes and restaurants are arranged along a long "boulevard". This boulevard is part digital, part greenery.
Cafes and restaurants have created different ways to meet – cafes are suitable for casual small gatherings. The circular stepped podium is suitable for occasional gatherings. The view is wide, and the bar in the center is perfect for quick conversations. Alcoves along the façade provide a place for intimate conversation or uninterrupted work, without missing out on the view of the garden.
The restaurant is dominated by group tables with a variety of seating combinations, including chairs, sofas, barstools, as well as large podiums and alcoves. In addition, a long table called the "Community Table" adds to the focus of the space, encouraging employees to connect with the team, integrate into the environment, and support the company.
Unlike a café, a restaurant is also suitable for large events. Reconfiguration can be done with a simple move. Furniture can be rearranged or removed as needed, metal rings can be pushed aside, and previous spatial ordering can be reorganized, transforming the campus restaurant into a free space, creating an exhilarating experience for collaboration, serendipity, and dynamic exchange.
