With the opening of Cino Chophouse and Crudo Bar, Los Angeles-based studio Studio UNLTD has unveiled their first design project on Hawaii Island. The project is housed in 'A'ali'i Shops, a mixed-use development in the town of Ward, consisting of interiors, facades and a 3,000 sq ft restaurant and 700 sq ft of outdoor space overlooking Victoria Ward Park in O'ahu.

As the flagship store of a popular and innovative restaurant group, the design needs to be bold and reproducible for customers. The design team took a global perspective and achieved this by creating an elegant, holistic atmosphere that is part of the group's mission to bring meaningful change to Hawaii's food and beverage industry.

Cino's interiors are a blend of maximalism, Art Deco and contemporary, where saturated colors are intertwined in unexpected ways with plush flowers, animal prints and crisp geometric shapes, creating a complex visual feast. Guided by the spirit of quirky artist apartments, the interior of the 3,000-square-foot restaurant is divided into three sections: a cocktail bar and lounge area at the entrance, a dedicated fresh bar and a restaurant area for dinner.

The cocktail bar is flanked by smaller, original bars with the same design features as the cocktail bar, including prismatic bar tops in tea-blue ceramic, Amazon marble bar tops, decorative brass shelves, and baroque slatted styling of the rear bar. Above is a polished brass hexagonal chandelier set in a mirrored recess, casting an ambiguous glow across the space and creating a striking focal point in the room. Directly opposite the bar are two curvilinear benches in luxurious fabrics in shades of pink, gold, pale green and fuchsia made up of giant flower petals. Translucent purple drapery softens the room. At the foot are marble-looking black and white porcelain tiles, paved in an oversized diagonal wedge pattern, visually intertwining the three spaces.

Deep mulberry purple is the dominant color in the restaurant, serving as a backdrop for cascading flower and animal textures, textured interiors, and large-scale colorful portraits of exotic animals. Surrounded by plush velvet, it includes an ultra-feminine floral print bench and a highly saturated Kelly green velvet dining chair. Other touches include polished brass and a high-gloss table top, adding a touch of luxury to the Avant Garde style.
