Dear readers and friends, this is a series of original articles on the war situation between Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan on April 30, 2024.

Today's content begins with a briefing on the situation of the war, followed by a surprise visit by the NATO Secretary General to Ukraine and the latest transfer of military aid from Germany:

1. Overall battle situation: On the 797th day of the war, according to the results report released by the Ukrainian General Staff this morning local time, in the past day, a total of 115 battles took place on the entire front, most of which were on the front line from Bakhmut to Chasivyar.

The fighting on the west side of Avdiivka was also fierce. Ukrainian army commander-in-chief Searsy announced on April 28 that Ukrainian forces were retreating westward from the villages of Berdich, Shemenivka and Novomykhailivka, west of Avdiivka. The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on the 29th that it had captured Novobakhmutivka and Shemenivka, which we explained yesterday.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a US think tank, assessed on April 28 that despite a limited retreat by Ukrainian forces in surrounding villages, it is unlikely that Russian forces will achieve operationally significant penetration in the area west of Avdiivka. ISW believes that while the Russian army has a tactical advantage, they are not yet strong enough to achieve a decisive breakthrough.

However, judging from the battle line map published on the online map, the Russian army initially only took advantage of the gap between the Ukrainian 47th Brigade and the 115th Brigade to enter the place of Ocherotino, and the westernmost Russian army was still in a lonely and deep situation at that time, but in the last two or three days, other Russian troops who have followed up have deepened and widened this salient, not only seizing Novobakhmutivka, but also threatening Ochir. This time the Ukrainian army really suffered a small loss.

Russia-Ukraine 4.30: The fighting on the Eastern Front is fierce, the Ukrainian army retreats, and Germany hands over a large amount of military aid

Everyone understands that because the military aid from the United States was delayed for half a year, the Ukrainian army lacked combat resources, including artillery shells, so it had to lose Avdiivka, and in the process of retreating to the west, because of the lack of favorable terrain and strong fortifications, the Ukrainian army had to fight and retreat. Now everyone is very concerned about where the arms will go after the resumption of American aid? Has it been sent to Ukraine?

On this issue, President Zelenskyy said yesterday that US military aid has "begun to arrive one after another." We will talk about this issue later in the article when NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg visited Ukraine.

In addition, today President Zelensky awarded 271 defenders of Ukraine national honors, of which 51 were posthumously. Salute to the Ukrainian warriors who defend their homeland!

2. Russian army losses: As of yesterday, the Russian army has accumulated 468,720 casualties, and 1,250 new losses yesterday:

The Ukrainian army also destroyed a total of 7,307 Russian tanks, 22 new ones, 14,046 armored vehicles, 39 new ones, and 12,011 artillery pieces, 26 new ones.

The vast majority of these gains were made in the eastern part of the front, including 1,037 Russian troops, 20 tanks and 33 infantry vehicles, as well as 490 drones and other equipment.

I didn't find the results chart yesterday, so I made up a copy of yesterday's one today:

3. News on air raids:

Today, 2 people were killed as a result of Russian airstrikes in Kharkiv. The area of Nikopol district was shelled, 2 houses were damaged.

Yesterday, a Russian missile launched from Crimea hit Odessa, and a building commonly known as "Harry Potter Castle" caught fire. At the moment, the roof is almost burned down:

The death toll from the attack has risen to five, including a 12-year-old boy, and 27 others have been injured. In particular, the Vice-Rector of the International Humanitarian University, Boris Vasilyev, was killed:

According to the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine, the Russian army attacked Odessa yesterday using ballistic missiles with cluster munitions.

Ukrainians are also attacking high-value targets of the Russian army. Since midnight, explosions have been reported in various parts of the occupied Crimean peninsula. Near Jankoy, Ukrainian missiles attacked the military airfield where the helicopter regiment of the 4th Air Force and Air Defense Command of the Southern Military District of Russia is stationed. Some believe that the attack was carried out by the Ukrainian army using ATACMS tactical missiles.

On the diplomatic front, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met with President Zelensky in Kyiv:

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg's surprise visit to Ukraine, which was not previously disclosed, was the third since the start of the war.

In Kyiv, he spoke in which he urged allies to put Ukraine's need for weapons above their own comfort zone for national stockpiles. He stressed that stocks can be restored, but the loss of life in Ukraine cannot.

Zelensky spoke at a joint briefing in Kyiv with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. He referred to the latest U.S. aid, saying the supplies had already begun to arrive, but he would not elaborate on details.

Zelensky also said that, unfortunately, this "is still not enough to fill our army and equip the appropriate number of brigades."

Obviously, the six-month-long delay cannot be made up for overnight.

Stoltenberg acknowledged that the delay in aid meant serious consequences on the battlefield and believed that for months the Russian army had an advantage in weapons, allowing Russia to advance on the front line. But "it's not too late for Ukraine to gain the upper hand," and the allies will help more in the process. He mentioned that the United States has approved a new aid package, the United Kingdom has announced the largest package, Germany has pledged to transfer additional air defense systems, and the Netherlands has also increased its contribution to Ukraine.

As part of military assistance, US military equipment destined for Ukraine was loaded onto trains from Poland and delivered to Ukraine. The images have gained a wide spread on social media. As you can see from the images, the equipment sent includes tanks, armored personnel carriers, artillery, and in particular, the M109 Paladin self-propelled gun.

Stoltenberg also encouraged allies to increase defense production and said that efforts would be made to conduct joint production with Ukraine.

Earlier, Stoltenberg had proposed that NATO countries create a special fund for providing financial support to Ukraine for defense in the amount of 100 billion euros for a period of 5 years. Zelensky welcomed the plan, saying that the creation of such a fund is very important for the Ukrainian side.

Stoltenberg also invited Zelensky to the NATO summit in Washington. He noted that NATO supports Ukraine in fighting for its security, as well as for Ukraine's own security.

Zelenskyy said that relations between Ukraine and NATO have reached the "highest level" so far, but not the highest. He hopes that Ukraine will join NATO, and said that NATO has done a good and effective job in supporting Ukraine.

At a joint briefing with Stoltenberg, Zelensky also announced that Western allies assured that there would be "no delays" in the process of supplying Ukraine with Patriot anti-aircraft missiles. But with regard to the 7 additional "Patriot" systems that Ukraine wants to receive, Ukraine has not yet received any details from its partners.

Stoltenberg then also spoke at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. In it, he praised the courage of the Ukrainian people and armed forces to resist the Russian offensive and stressed that Ukraine will join NATO in the future, and NATO will protect it from new threats.

For his part, the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Stefan Chuk stressed that Ukraine's pursuit of joining the European Union and NATO has been written into the Ukrainian constitution.

Attentive readers must have noticed that for many days in a row, the Russian army suffered heavy casualties. It is impossible that losses on the battlefield will not affect the morale of ordinary soldiers of the Russian army. As a result, a Russian soldier posted on social media, warning his compatriots not to join the Russian army's misdeeds.

In this video, which went viral, the Russian soldier believes that war is as cruel as hell.

Although Russia is not yet fully mobilized, recruits who respond to the signs are well paid, with a starting salary of 160,000 rubles (about $1,800) per recruit, which is more than three times the national average, as well as other benefits, such as signing fees.

However, the military man, who asked not to be named, advised his compatriots, especially those with no previous military experience, not to be blinded just for the sake of payment. He said that he was an experienced veteran, but he had met a lot of rookies who didn't know anything. He said that there was a 19-year-old young man who joined the Russian army for money, and he did not know how to hold a gun correctly, nor did he know how to reload, let alone how to disassemble an assault rifle.

He said that this war is not like World War II, "to kill the Germans", it is modern warfare, and soldiers have to dodge cluster munitions, drones and artillery shelling at all times.

"For those who want to be heroes...... I can tell you that you have come to the wrong place", said the veteran of the Russian army, "and as soon as you enter the battle for the first time and see the first corpse, your heroism disappears." You might also end up in these '200s'."

"Either you are tired of life, or you are a complete fool", says the serviceman, "and when you realize that you want to live, patriotism will soon disappear".

The British Ministry of Defense said that the Russian army has lost 450,000 people so far, which is not much different from the 468,000 announced by the Ukrainian army.

Although Ukraine has encountered various difficulties in the war, in fact, the Russians have more difficulties. Although they have a larger population, heavy weapons, and some aid from countries such as North Korea, in general, Russian industry has been in ruins for a long time, and the external assistance it receives also comes at a significant economic or geopolitical cost, which is quite expensive. And the total amount of resources on the side of civilized countries is larger, and the room for error is obviously greater, so Russia will definitely still lose.

News on the aid side:

1. Germany has handed over another large batch of military aid to Ukraine, including:

two SKYNEX air defense systems with ammunition, which are smart air defense systems designed primarily to counter drones;

Russia-Ukraine 4.30: The fighting on the Eastern Front is fierce, the Ukrainian army retreats, and Germany hands over a large amount of military aid

an undisclosed number of missiles of the IRIS-TSLM air defense system;

ammunition for the Leopard 2 main battle tank;

30,000 rounds of 35-mm ammunition for the "Gepard" anti-aircraft tank;

7500 rounds of 155 mm ammunition;

10 "Weasel" infantry combat vehicles with ammunition and spare parts (the Armed Forces of Ukraine have already received a total of 100 units);

The picture shows Germany transporting "Weasel" infantry combat vehicles to Ukraine by rail in August 2023

BIBER bridging tanks with spare parts (17 units were previously transferred);

DACHS engineering tanks (7 units were previously delivered);

11 demining vehicles (55 have been received previously);

6 x M1070 Oshkosh heavy semi-trailers (for transporting tanks).

Another TRML-4D radar will help monitor the airspace (8 were previously transferred);

The AMPS helicopter self-defense system (Ukraine already has 5) will protect the helicopter;

and some other small devices.

Germany plans to provide more than 7 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine this year.

2. Former British Secretary of State for the Armed Forces, James Hippe, warned that Ukraine's defeat in the war with Russia would cost the West "trillions" of dollars in a new Cold War. Hippe said that for Ukraine to win the battle for "security in the entire Euro-Atlantic region", "additional aid packages like those presented this week are needed."

3. Estonian Prime Minister Kallas said that the assistance of the United States and the United Kingdom to Ukraine should inspire other countries. She reminded that the Russians have been betting that aid from Ukraine's allies will decrease and unity will unravel. Since the strength of the allied countries is far above Russia, then Ukraine should be supplied with what it desperately needs, and defense spending should be increased.

As I said earlier, although the Ukrainian army has encountered many problems and is now gradually retreating on the battlefield, the Ukrainian army is engaged in a just war to defend the country, and the overall strength of Ukraine's allies is much stronger than that of Russia. Therefore, the rampant of the Russian army is only temporary.

When the aid needed by the Ukrainian army is in place one after another, and Syrsky's troop rotation strategy takes effect, the Russian army will find that the Ukrainian army on the opposite side is gradually becoming stronger, and they can only pitifully use outdated and backward weapons to attack. Therefore, this war will inevitably still end in the defeat of Russia, which is the call of justice and civilization!
