As an important base for Bosch's electrification strategy, Bosch Hydrogen Power Systems (Chongqing) Co., Ltd.'s new plant started construction in 2021, covering an area of about 240,000 square meters, integrating R&D and testing, manufacturing, and sales management of hydrogen power products, and is equipped with Bosch's largest R&D center for Class A fuel cells (assemblies). On November 2, 2023, Bosch Hydrogen Power Systems (Chongqing) Co., Ltd.'s new plant was officially put into operation in Taojia Town, Jiulongpo District. The rapid construction of the plant is not unrelated to the layout of the "Western Hydrogen Valley" in Jiulongpo District, and the introduction of Bosch, the world's largest auto parts company, through the project, is also an important part of Jiulongpo District's precise investment promotion of the "Western Hydrogen Valley" hydrogen energy industry agglomeration. Bosch Hydrogen Powertrain (Chongqing) Co., Ltd. is a joint venture between Bosch Group and Qingling Motors Group, the world's largest supplier of automotive technology. Bosch Hydrogen Power Systems (Chongqing) Co., Ltd., as the core project of the "Western Hydrogen Valley" and an important base for Bosch's electrification strategy, was officially signed and settled in Jiulongpo District in December 2020. It is expected to produce a total of 23,000 hydrogen fuel cell engines by 2025, and Qingling Group is expected to produce a total of 9,000 hydrogen fuel cell commercial vehicles.

Prior to the start of construction of the new plant, Bosch Hydrogen Power Systems (Chongqing) Co., Ltd.'s temporary plant in Xipeng Industrial Park was officially put into production in January 2022, and a variety of hydrogen-powered products have been launched to the market, covering typical scenarios of commercial vehicles such as urban travel, logistics, and medium- and heavy-duty long-distance transportation. In addition, a 300-kilowatt hydrogen power module has also been tested in customer vehicles. According to statistics, more than 3.6 million kilometers of vehicles equipped with Bosch hydrogen power modules have been operated.

"With the opening of the new plant of Bosch Hydrogen Powertrain (Chongqing) Co., Ltd., the production capacity of Bosch hydrogen powertrain in China will be further increased. Wang Weiliang, President of Bosch Powertrain China, said that relying on Chongqing's supporting resources, based on Chongqing, we will continue to explore more hydrogen power application scenarios, provide advanced and competitive solutions for local customers, and help build a low-carbon transportation future in China and around the world.

It is understood that up to now, Bosch Hydrogen Power Systems (Chongqing) Co., Ltd. has produced more than 1,800 hydrogen fuel engines, and has realized the local R&D and mass production of 75 kW, 132 kW, 190 kW and 250 kW hydrogen power engines, and has successfully carried 11 brands such as Qingling Automobile and Jiefang, covering a full range of commercial vehicles from 4.5 tons to 49 tons.

Hydrogen energy is an important part of the future national energy system, and it is a strategic emerging industry and a key development direction for future industries. In 2019, Jiulongpo District implemented the "double carbon" goal, accelerated industrial transformation and upgrading, promoted green and low-carbon development, took the lead in developing the hydrogen energy industry in the city, and established a hydrogen energy industry development management committee headed by the district mayor to promote the development of the hydrogen energy industry. In the Taojia Development Zone of Jiulongpo Area, 3 square kilometers are planned, and it is planned to invest 20 billion yuan to build a national hydrogen commercial vehicle production base, a national fuel cell system R&D and manufacturing base, and a national hydrogen energy industry demonstration and application base, forming a "Western Hydrogen Valley" integrating "Hydrogen Energy Science and Technology Park", "Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park" and "Hydrogen Energy Exhibition and Publicity Base". It is estimated that by 2025, the development of industrial agglomeration will be realized, the production capacity of fuel cell vehicles will reach 5,000, and the output value of the hydrogen energy industry will reach 10 billion yuan. Looking forward to 2035, the output value of the hydrogen energy industry will reach 100 billion yuan, cultivate 5~10 unicorn enterprises with international influence, and basically build a world-class hydrogen energy technology industry development highland.

In this regard, Jiulongpo District planned the industrial layout from a high starting point and issued the "Medium and Long-term Development Plan for the Hydrogen Energy Industry in Jiulongpo District, Chongqing (2023-2035)". Since 2020, the district has vigorously attracted investment around hydrogen energy head enterprises, and has attracted 7 projects with a total investment of 17.1 billion yuan, including 2 municipal key projects with a planned investment of 7.9 billion yuan. These include the Bosch Qingling fuel cell engine project, the Synergy Hydrogen Energy Technology Industrial Park project, etc. Subsequently, the district accelerated the promotion of major hydrogen energy industry projects with high quality and efficiency. Among them, in the construction of the new plant of Bosch Hydrogen Power Systems Chongqing Co., Ltd., the relevant departments of the district have carried out special work to fully grasp the construction progress and quality, actively respond to various problems in the construction process, and ensure that the project is delivered within the specified time limit.

At the same time, in order to strengthen policy guidance and stimulate industrial vitality, Jiulongpo District has issued the "Policies and Measures to Support the Development of Hydrogen Energy Industry (Trial)", which has become the "Golden Eight" to help the industry accelerate its development, and is committed to eight policy empowerment aspects such as industrial cultivation, investment encouragement, and market promotion, with a maximum support fund of 10 million yuan.

Contribute to the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Hydrogen Corridor

Under a series of layouts, the hydrogen energy industry has developed rapidly in Jiulongpo. Since the delivery of the first batch of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles in Qingling in August 2021, the scale of the hydrogen energy industry in Jiulongpo District has grown rapidly. In terms of commercial vehicles, Qingling Motors has launched more than 500 hydrogen energy vehicles nationwide, including four series of 4.5 tons, 8.3 tons, 12 tons and 18 tons, fuel cell van trucks, fuel cell wingspan van trucks, fuel cell modified chassis and other categories. In terms of the overall scale of the industry, the hydrogen energy industry in the zone will achieve an output value of 800 million yuan in 2022, a growth rate of 150%, and an operating income of 1.06 billion yuan in 2023, a growth rate of 32.5%. The output value of the hydrogen energy industry, the output of hydrogen commercial vehicles, and the output of core components of hydrogen energy vehicles all rank first in the city.

At half past six in the morning on March 4, a hydrogen truck drove into a hydrogen refueling station in Jiulongpo District. A few minutes later, the truck's hydrogen storage tank was filled with enough hydrogen to drive the truck full of spare parts to Chengdu, 300 kilometers away. This hydrogen refueling station is the city's first commercial hydrogen refueling station built in Jiulongpo District in 2021 - Sinopec Banshan Ring Road Hydrogen Refueling Station, which has a daily hydrogen refueling capacity of 1,000Kg and can provide hydrogen refueling services for 100 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles per day. As an important node of the Chengdu-Chongqing Hydrogen Corridor, Jiulongpo District has contributed to the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Hydrogen Corridor by creating high-quality application scenarios. According to reports, Qingling Motors, Takitong Technology and other enterprises have put a total of 125 fuel cell vehicles in the Chengdu-Chongqing Hydrogen Corridor, with a cumulative mileage of more than 4.2 million kilometers, 12,000 runs, and more than 400,000 cubic meters of goods and more than 130,000 tons.

Next, Jiulongpo District will also rely on the "Chengdu-Chongqing, Chongqing-Wan" hydrogen corridor to strive to open fuel cell bus demonstration routes, continuously expand the demonstration and application of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in the fields of short barge transportation, urban sanitation, trunk logistics, etc., and plan to create a number of typical application scenarios with foundation, efficient operation and promotion market.
