The first situation is that if your orchid has "burst pots", that is, the root system of the orchid is already very developed and fills the entire pot, then you need to give it a bigger home, or divide the seedlings to give them more room to grow.
The second situation is that the potting soil planting material has been rotted or almost pulverized. This means that the planting material has lost its nutrients and air permeability, which is not good for the growth of orchids. Therefore, once it is found that the planting material is not in good condition, it should be replaced in time.
The third situation is that when the orchid has health problems, such as rotting seedlings, it also needs to be repotted immediately. When repotting, the diseased seedlings are removed and replaced with new planting material to help the orchid regain its health.
After talking about the timing of repotting, let's talk about the maintenance points after repotting. This is a major event related to the life and death of orchids!
First of all, the orchid that has been repotted must be placed in a ventilated and shady place. Remember not to let it bask in the sun, because the roots of the orchid that have just been repotted have not yet fully adapted to the new environment and cannot effectively transport water upwards. Basking in the sun at this time can easily lead to dehydration of orchids. Therefore, a cool and ventilated environment is the most suitable for its recovery.
Secondly, never rush to fertilize. Again, the root system of the orchid has not fully recovered, and fertilization not only cannot absorb it, but may cause fertilizer damage. Under normal circumstances, it is safer to start fertilizing after a month of changing pots.
