On April 12, the first event information conference of the 2024 China Open Tennis Championships was held at the National Tennis Center. It was learned from the press conference that this year's China Open tournament will be officially upgraded, and the WTA event will be expanded to 96 signs. At the same time, two heavyweight contenders for the men's event were announced.
Starting from the 2024 season, the WTA1000 China Open will be expanded to 96 draws, and according to WTA regulations, the top 75 players in the world will be compulsorily played. China Open has prepared a generous prize fund for this year's participants, with a total prize amount of 13.14 million US dollars.
The China Open became the fifth WTA tournament to be extended to 96 draws, after Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid and Rome. Of the 96 draws, 32 seeded players will have a first-round bye, while unseeded players will need to play the same number of tournaments as the Grand Slam if they want to win the title.
In addition to the women's draw upgrade, the China Open Men's Singles announced two heavyweights for this year's event. Alcaraz and Medvedev, two former world No. 1 Grand Slam champions, will be at the China Open this autumn.
The 2024 China Open will run from September 23 to October 6, with the ATP 500 final on October 2 and the WTA1000 final on October 6. Day games start at 11 a.m. and night games start at 7 p.m.
