After the 7.3-magnitude earthquake in Lianhua County, Taiwan, food poisoning occurred frequently on the island at the beginning of this month. It is reported that recently, a number of customers have diarrhea, vomiting and other symptoms after dining at two restaurants in Taipei.
So far, 82 people have developed these symptoms and have gone to the hospital. After investigating some patients, the preliminary results of Taiwan's disease control department showed that norovirus infection, which is also one of the common pathogens causing acute gastroenteritis. Of course, the specific cause is still under further investigation by the Taiwan authorities.
However, when food poisoning and earthquakes caused panic on the island, a serious food safety problem was exposed on the island. It is reported that in the past two days, Taiwan's "Food and Drug Administration" has carried out random inspections on 629 pieces of poultry, livestock and aquatic products on the island, and found that the noon fish of Pingtung County Xiechun Aquatic Products Co., Ltd. has been illegally used.
This batch of noon fish was found to have used reduced malachite green, which has long been listed as a banned drug by the Taiwan authorities. Reduced malachite green is the main metabolite of malachite green, according to the results of animal experiments, after the use of the drug, there will be anemia, weight loss and other phenomena, and even lead to genetic mutations.
This is enough to show that such drugs will cause hidden dangers to human health. Of course, malachite green has a significant antibacterial effect and can be used to treat skin lesions of fish, so it is highly sought after by aquatic products, but malachite green is also carcinogenic, so it is limited to the use of ornamental fish, and it is strictly forbidden for edible aquatic products.
At present, malachite green has been detected in edible fish on the island, which is obviously a more serious food safety problem. From January to February this year, a total of 124 pesticide residues were found in animal drug products sampled by Taiwan's "Food and Drug Administration". The noon fish, which have used malachite green, is the most serious one.
There were about 780 kilograms of unqualified noon fish, but all of them were sold to the outside market and were not sold on the island. As soon as this incident came out, people couldn't help but think of the Taiwanese grouper that was banned by the mainland two years ago. In 2022, the mainland also completely suspended the import of Taiwanese grouper because it detected that Taiwanese groupers had used illegal drugs such as malachite green and crystal violet.
The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) not only hyped up that the mainland was "maliciously planting" the Taiwan region to carry out "political suppression," but also used the so-called "democracy" as a matter. Since the total amount of grouper exported from Taiwan is more than 6,000 hectares, the ban on the mainland will cause considerable economic losses to the island.
Therefore, while the Taiwan authorities took out NT$600 million to stimulate the people on the island to buy groupers, they also turned to Japan, Lithuania and other countries for help.
