In the history of World of Tanks' development, the developers of the WG tank group actually envisioned many amazing features, but in the end they were not able to implement them. They're the same scrap tanks I told you about earlier, and they're crushed to the bottom of the box. Today I'm going to introduce you to an experimental feature that was developed in version 0.7.0: the tank whistle system!
The horn of the Sherman tank signaled
As a special vehicle, the tank has to travel on land, and if you want to communicate with other vehicles on the road, or with the surrounding infantry, sound equipment is indispensable. In reality, there are indeed some tanks, such as the German Leopard 1 and Leopard 2, and the American Sherman has a horn. The Type 59 tank on the mainland also has it, but it is called a "siren", and in the standard start process of the Type 59, there is a step that is to press the horn a few times to remind the people around that the tank is about to start/start. It's the same as when we go to a family car driving school, where we are required to honk the horn before starting. However, the sound of the tank horn is nothing special, it is generally the same as the common electric car, not the powerful air horn of a big truck or train.

Back in 2010, the WG tank group came up with the idea of adding a tank horn system in version 0.7.0, and in 2011 it was added to the version 0.7.0 test. This version also includes a camouflage system, which is supposed to be intended to be personalized as much as the horn system. Players can buy their own horns and install them for their tanks, and press the H key to sound the horn during battle. The WG tank group recorded at least two different horn sounds, probably for different family of vehicles. In the 0.7.0 version of the promotional video, two shots were also specially given to show the huge scene of all the tanks honking their horns together.

However, in the official server update of version 0.7.0, there is no such function as a whistle system. The WG tank crew didn't give an explanation for this, I guess it was... They think this feature will cause "road rage" among players. Imagine that in that era, there were still friendly injuries, if you keep honking the horn in your ear, and then interfere with the battle, it is really very annoying... However, the world of warships can sound the whistle, which is still quite interesting. Maybe the tank horn feature will one day return as a featured system.
