World War II Debt Stamp Series (3): The Italian and German occupation of Ljubljana

Between 1941 and 1945, Italy and Germany occupied Ljubljana.

In 1941, Italian troops invaded parts of the Yugoslav state of Drava, which included the city of Ljubljana, and declared itself the "Italian Province of Ljubljana".

In 1943, with the withdrawal of Italy, the area was taken over by German troops.

Both occupying regimes issued postage stamps for the land, including stamps for arrears.

The Italian authorities printed the 1932 Yugoslav arrears stamps with the words "Civil Affairs Commissioner of the Occupied Territories of Slovenia" and "Ljubljana".

Subsequently, the German authorities stamped the 1934 Italian arrears with the words "Province of Lebach", supplemented by the eagle motif and a number of other markings.
