Since the discovery of the first fossil of the long-tailed Naro worm in July 1984, more than 20 phyla and more than 300 species of Cambrian rare animal fossils have been discovered and reported in the Chengjiang Fossil Field, and the ancestors of almost all living animal phyla can be found here. The Chengjiang fossil field accurately records the historical facts of the "explosion of life in the early Cambrian period", which is the best example of this important event. At the same time, the Chengjiang fossils have significant species diversity characteristics, showing the complete marine community and ecosystem of the early Cambrian, which is the best window to understand the structure of the biological community in this period. In July 2012, at the 36th session of the World Heritage Committee, the Chengjiang fossil site was inscribed on the World Heritage List, and is still the only fossil World Heritage Site in Asia to be included in the list.
