Volkswagen Santana 2000, many people have owned it, many more people have driven it, and even 80% of people have sat it.
But most people see the sedan version, and the most famous station wagon is the Santana Tour.
Put a Santana Brigade and compare it with the Santana 2000 Travel Edition below
And in Brazil, the birthplace of the Santana 2000, there is also a "2000 Touring Edition", which is also a very popular model.
The familiar and unfamiliar Santana 2000 Travel Edition
The origin of Santana 2000
The Santana, the B2 generation Passat, began production in Europe in 1981 and was not phased out until 1988.
In 1984, Brazilian policy required car companies to build factories in the country, so Santana started production in Brazil. This means that Volkswagen is not moving the obsolete production line to Brazil, but has built another B2 platform production line with real money.
At the same time, Santana was produced in the form of CKD in China. But in 1985, as required by the same policy, Volkswagen also invested in a full-process B2 production line, and the factory settled in Shanghai.
The first Santana produced at the Volkswagen plant in Shanghai
In March 1988, the Passat B3 was introduced. At this time, the Brazilian factory has just been in operation for 4 years, and the Shanghai factory has just been in operation for 3 years, and it is obviously not economically economical to replace the B3 in Europe closely, so the B2 platform must continue to be produced and sold.
But at the same time, the fuel technology and braking technology of automobiles have made great progress, even if the automobile industry in the two markets is backward, there are still Japanese, American, and French cars involved, and not updating will inevitably affect sales.
As a result, based on the B2 platform, a new car after the technical update was born, which is the Santana 2000 that we are familiar with.
The Santana 2000 was a successful look, and it felt like it was not the same car as the Santana, which was not difficult to do, because the B2 platform not only produced Volkswagen, but also the Audi 80.
It can be seen that the Santana 2000 is borrowed from the design of the Audi 80 B3, and the rear of the car is also the same.
The second is the interior, which borrows from the Audi 200, the design of the early Audi A6.
These make up the origin of Santana 2000.
In addition to the sedan, the Santana or B2 platform also has a station wagon, this car is more popular in Brazil than in China, therefore, the Santana 2000 station wagon did not enter the country, only in South America.
Santana 2000 Travel Edition
The Santana 2000 Touring Edition, called Quantum in the South American market, comes in three levels. The sedan version was launched in 1991 and the touring version in 1992.
The front face is the same as the sedan version, but the rear of the car has not been changed to a horizontal taillight design, but the tail lid and tail light shape have been changed.
The biggest change in the Santana 2000 is in terms of configuration, first of all, the functional configuration, as shown in the figure below.
Followed by the most important performance configuration, the Santana 2000 Touring was equipped with an electronically controlled in-cylinder direct injection engine and an ABS braking system, making it the most advanced model in Brazil at the time.
The fuel function is improved by the Bosch LE-Jetronic injection system, which has been significantly reduced in fuel consumption and can run 12.64 kilometers per liter of fuel, according to local media in Brazil.
Another change is the improved performance, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 12.27 seconds (2.0-litre engine) and a braking distance of 26.9 metres at 80 km/h.
Interior space is one of Quantum's greatest values, with seats padded to optimise support and soft flannel surfaces for a comfortable sitting.
There is also plenty of boot space.
The popular car of the year
The Santana 2000 is positioned as a high-end model, and Volkswagen is very optimistic about its prospects in the South American market.
In 1992, Volkswagen invited the world's media to South America for test drives and promote family, travel and other lifestyles.

The B2 chassis has a strong passability
Santana 2000 (and the follow-up Freedom Superman, Freedom Boiling Point, Junjie, Pride of the Times, etc.) has at least 2 million units in China, and although there are still on the road, they are only occasionally encountered. The era when it could be seen on the streets and alleys has passed quickly.
