The construction on the edge of the World Cultural Heritage Site is a beautiful scenery but not a small challenge. Due to its location in the Hangjiahu Plain, there are no speed bumps at all due to strong winds, and such weather conditions have also brought a lot of impact to the construction.

The ecological and environmental protection requirements of the ancient canal are high, and the builders have made sufficient preparations for safety and environmental protection measures in the planning stage. "We have made an integrated design of the safety protection facilities here, such as the edge protection mesh on the bridge deck is 30 centimeters higher than the conventional one, achieving a height of 1.5 meters, and also made a closed design below to prevent construction waste from falling. Pan Qiang, deputy manager of the TJ04 standard project of Sutai Expressway (Phase II) of CCCC First Public Bureau, introduced, "There is also a fully enclosed bottom protection platform under the bridge to prevent falling objects from high altitudes and ensure the safety of navigation." In addition, this bottom protection platform adopts the mode of centralized processing and prefabrication in the back field and splicing and installation in the front field, which reduces the formation of construction waste on the site and further protects the ecological environment of the construction site from the source.

Since the beginning of this year, the Sutai Expressway (Phase II) project has entered a critical period of production and construction, and more and more people, equipment and materials need to be transported to the construction site, especially near the second work area of the project TJ02, there are dozens of "fully armed" engineering vehicles in and out within an hour, which also makes the safety control and environmental protection pressure of the project rise rapidly.

Since TJ02 jointly undertook the construction of the second phase of Sutai Expressway and the third ring road west road in Tongxiang City, it has been facing the problem of co-construction of upper and lower floors. In order to reduce the impact of the surrounding environment, the project strengthened source control in the early stage of construction, not only carried out concrete hardening "beauty" on all construction roads, but also arranged the circulation of each vehicle.

With a total length of about 44 kilometers, a total investment of about 18 billion yuan and a construction period of 36 months, the Sutai Expressway (Phase II) project is the first county-level expressway project with independent investment of over 10 billion yuan in China. Due to the particularity of the geographical location, in order to better protect the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, since the start of the project, the whole process of the project has practiced the construction path of "cultural relics protection", "green environmental protection" and "cultural inheritance", and explored a refined green environmental protection plan. In the construction of the upper span of the ancient canal, it not only innovatively uses the new composite beam structure of double-layer steel box 110m large span and the construction technology of "cantilever + large section hoisting", but also makes efforts from green construction, recycling and other aspects to protect the clear water of the thousand-year-old canal.

Mao Lihua, assistant to the commander and director of the project management office of the Sutai Expressway (Phase II) Consulting Project of the Digital Intelligence Traffic Institute, introduced that at present, the project has returned to the state of the peak period of construction, and on the basis of doing a good job in basic actions such as green co-construction, the main focus is on the construction of subgrade filling, bridge substructure, beam and plate prefabricated installation and bridge deck system, so as to achieve a good start.
