ASUS BIOS UPDATE PROVIDES INITIAL SUPPORT FOR ZEN5 RYZEN:

In the latest BIOS update from ASUS for ROG Crosshair and ROG Strix X670E series motherboards, the included AGESA 1.1.7.0 firmware already provides initial support for the ZEN5-based Ryzen 9000 processors.

The Granite Ridge has a 00B40Fxx CPUID and uses the AM5 socket, and existing AMD 600 series motherboards will receive support for next-generation Ryzen processors with a BIOS update.

AMD will deliver a keynote speech at Computex 2024 in June, and the Ryzen 9000 (Granite Ridge) is expected to be one of the presentations.

Tiered Storage: Samsung introduces CXL hybrid memory

After Intel discontinued Optane, the discussion of tiered storage in consumer applications faded away. The enterprise market has always had a nearly unlimited demand for storage capacity, especially large language models, which need to be supported by massive amounts of memory. At Memcon 2024, Samsung recently announced a CXL hybrid memory module (CMM-HTM) that combines DRAM memory and NAND flash memory to more cost-effectively expand server memory capacity through tiered storage.

CXL is an open industry standard that is currently primarily used in the server market, but AMD has said it will consider introducing it to consumer platforms in the future. Samsung's CMM-H CXL memory solution enables tiered data storage, with hot data automatically stored in DRAM memory and less used cold data stored in NAND flash memory, and Samsung also supports API instructions to devices to store specific data in high-performance DRAM memory.
