After three years of construction, the Bat Trang Ceramics Community Centre was officially opened in 2021. The aim of the project is to retell the history of the village by showcasing the ceramics created by the artisans and to introduce the different materials and techniques used in the ceramic craft here. With a total investment of VND 150 billion, the project is part of the "Vietnam Boutique Craft Village" project, which aims to preserve and develop the 500-year-old ceramic craft tradition in this craft village.

The Bat Trang Ceramics Community Centre occupies an important place in the local village planning and is located at the entrance of the village, on the banks of the Bac Hung Hai Canal. The design has carefully considered and designed the form of the building, controlled the volume and height of the building, coordinated the proportion between the building and the landscape, and the construction of this project also improves the landscape along the canal, recreating the bustling scene of the old pottery market along the canal.

Bat Trang Ceramic Community Centre is a five-storey mixed-use building. The building is made up of 7 interconnected pottery carousel-like volumes, inspired by the overlapping curves formed and gradually expanded by ceramic artisans during the treatment of smooth clay blocks. As a result, the concrete frame was folded to form a stepped ceramic display, which not only optimizes the functionality of the building, but also impresses. On the other hand, the project is also reminiscent of Bat Trang's antique gourd stove.

▼Curved architectural form
The designers created an open area between the seven inverted domes on the first floor of the interior for public events. A skylight at the top provides natural light and cool air inside.

In order to enhance the rustic and idyllic character of the ceramic village, the designers adopted the reddish-brown color of stoneware as the main color of the building. The entire building is constructed of fiber-reinforced concrete, a material that is lightweight, expands upwards and is easy to build with local builders.
