author:Orange Island Fisherman

Tang Taizong's creation of Zhenguan's rule is inseparable from the foundation laid by the Sui Dynasty. The Sui Dynasty built a capital city for the Tang Dynasty, and it is clear that this reduced the economic burden of the Tang Dynasty.

1. Establishment and renaming of Daxing City

In 581 AD, Emperor Wen of Sui Yang Jian established the Sui Dynasty. Yang Jian followed the predecessor of the Sui Dynasty, the Northern Zhou Dynasty, and set the capital to build Chang'an City in the Han Dynasty, at this time, the history has spanned 800 years. The city of Chang'an in the Han Dynasty has been abandoned, warned, in disrepair, dilapidated and narrow, the water quality has become salty, and the pollution is serious.

In the second year, Emperor Wen of Sui decided to build a new capital, located in Longshouyuan, southeast of Chang'an City in the Han Dynasty, and the chief commander of the project was the number one hero of the Sui Empire, the left servant of Shangshu shot Gao Xi, the deputy commander-in-chief was Liu Long, the master craftsman, and the chief engineer was Yu Wenkai, the prince of the left concubine.

Daxing City: The first city in the world spanning thousands of years

In 557, when Yang Jian was sixteen years old, Emperor Yu Wenyu of the Northern Zhou Ming Dynasty ascended the throne and awarded Yang Jian the title of the right little palace uncle and the prince of Daxing County. Because of this knighthood, Emperor Wen of Sui named the new capital city "Daxing City", and the imperial palace was also named "Daxing Palace". In 583, the Sui Dynasty moved the capital to Daxingcheng.

Emperor Wen of Sui named the front hall of Daxing Palace "Daxing Palace", and the middle hall was "China Palace". "Daxing Palace" is the main hall of Daxing Palace, which is the place where the civil and military dynasties meet; "Zhonghua Palace" is the place where important ministers of the imperial court discuss matters. This is the first time that the mainland has used the name "China Palace" in the capital, which is very distinctive, showing the determination of Emperor Wen of Sui to restore Chinese culture.

The north gate of Daxing Palace is Xuanwu Gate, and the south gate of the Imperial City is Vermilion Bird Gate, which is taken from "East Canglong, West White Tiger, South Vermilion Bird, North Xuanwu"; this is the first time that the mainland has crowned the north gate of the Imperial Palace with "Xuanwu", and the south gate with "Vermilion Bird".

In the ninth year of Wude of the Tang Dynasty (626), after years of brewing and preparation, Li Shimin, the king of Qin, launched a famous military coup d'état in Xuanwumen, which is called the "Xuanwumen Incident" in the history books. During the incident, Li Shimin, the king of Qin, beheaded the crown prince Li Jiancheng and his younger brother Li Yuanji, and coerced his father Li Yuan to hand over power.

After the establishment of the Tang Dynasty, in order to eliminate the traces of the Sui Dynasty, and the word "Daxing" was not suitable for the Tang Dynasty, the Tang court renamed "Daxing City" as "Chang'an", which means "long-term peace and stability".

The people of the Tang Dynasty renamed "Daxing Palace" as "Taiji Palace", "Daxing Palace" as "Taiji Palace", and "Zhonghua Palace" as "Liangyi Palace"; however, the name of Xuanwu Gate did not change.

In this way, "Daxing City" became the capital of the Tang Dynasty, "Chang'an City", and the royal family members of the Tang Dynasty still reside in the Taiji Palace. Although during the reign of Taizong of the Tang Dynasty and Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, palaces such as Daming Palace and Xingqing Palace were added successively. However, the main structure of the capital city of the Tang Dynasty is still the original "Daxing City".

Nowadays, Xi'an's Tang Sleepless City and Tang Paradise should actually be called Sui and Tang Never Sleeps City, Sui and Tang Paradise.

2. Architectural expert Yu Wenkai

The construction of Daxing City has achieved the architectural expert Yu Wenkai, who was a famous urban planning and construction engineering expert in ancient times. The major construction projects of the Sui Dynasty basically had Yu Wenkai's participation, and others such as Guangtong Canal, Renshou Palace, Luoyang, the eastern capital, and the Grand Canal.

In March 612, Emperor Yang Guang of the Sui Dynasty hit Goguryeo and ordered people to build a pontoon bridge on the Liao River, and the first bridge commander was Yu Wenkai. At this time, Yu Wenkai may have been working with illness, because the bridge was not successful this time, so that Mai Tiezhu, Qian Shixiong, Meng Jincha and others, the pioneers of crossing Liao, were killed in battle.

A few days later, Yang Guang ordered He Chou to command the bridge to build a bridge, and Yang Guang and his soldiers crossed the Liao River and won the battle against the Goguryeo army in Hedong. Soon after Yang Guang returned to China from Goguryeo, Yu Wenkai died.
