As a "symbol of France", baguettes may represent France in the 2021 "heritage" battle, but unexpectedly, baguettes are also the most wasted food for the French.
According to the French BFM TV station reported on the 13th, the ecological consumption caused by the production of a baguette is very large, requiring an average of 4 square meters of land, a whole bathtub of water and discharging 140 grams of carbon dioxide. The latest statistics also show that the French discard an average of 9 baguettes a year, totaling 150,000 tons in the country. This means that 10% of all baguettes produced each year are discarded. This figure also makes baguettes the most wasted food in the French (13% of all wasted food). In view of the fact that many people currently live on relief and the cost of making baguettes, BFM TV has issued an exclamation that "we have wasted too many baguettes".
According to the report, discarding overnight baguettes in pursuit of fresh taste is the number one cause of waste. To "save" the overnight baguette, experts suggest that it can be beaten into bread crumbs or diced and then used to bake crispy dishes or soup. (Pan Liang)
