The Blancpain x Swatch collection of five Oceans welcomes a new member of the ocean. There are only five oceans on Earth, and Swatch welcomes the moon with the OCEAN OF STORMS in the Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms collection, a collection that pays homage to the 70-year-old BLANCPAIN Fifty Fathoms, the originator of modern mechanical diver's watches. The Latin name of this "ocean" is "Oceanus Procellarum", which is the lunar sea located on the western edge of the Moon's near-Earth side. Its name means "stormy ocean" and is the largest plain or "ocean" on the Moon, spanning 2,500 kilometers from north to south and covering an area of about 2 million square kilometers. The new OCEAN OF STORMS watch from the Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms collection captures this majestic sea. THE NEW MODELS ARE THE SAME IN SIZE AND FEATURES AS THE ARCTIC OCEAN, PACIFIC OCEAN, ATLANTIC OCEAN, INDIAN OCEAN AND ANTARCTIC OCEAN WATCHES.
THE OCEAN OF STORMS WATCH FEATURES BLACK AS THE MAIN COLOUR SCHEME, INSPIRED BY THE CRESCENT MOON, ALSO KNOWN AS THE "BLACK MOON". Like the other five Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms watches, the OCEAN OF STORMS is equipped with Swatch's first and only fully automatic mechanical movement SISTEM51. Equipped with a Nivachron ™ hairspring and anti-magnetic properties, the movement consists of only 51 parts, including a central screw, and has a power reserve of 90 hours. SISTEM51 revolutionized the world of automatic watches in 2013 with the features of its visible movement: the front tells the time, the back tells the story.
The OCEAN OF STORMS is also adorned with a special nudibranch, Okenia Luna. It is printed on the balance wheel of the movement, and the watch can be wound with a slight wave of the wrist. The back of the movement is also printed with a panoramic view of the moon focused on the Stormy Ocean.
LIKE THE ARCTIC OCEAN, PACIFIC OCEAN, ATLANTIC OCEAN, INDIAN OCEAN AND ANTARCTIC OCEAN, THE OCEAN OF STORMS IS WATER-RESISTANT TO A DEPTH OF 91 METRES. It's another tribute to Blancpain: the word "fathom" in the name of Fifty Fathoms is the historical maritime standard for measuring depth in English-speaking countries, and fifty fathoms is equal to 91 meters (or 300 feet).
Like its predecessors, the OCEAN OF STORMS is made of the same innovative Bioceramic material. Patented by Swatch in Switzerland, this unique material is made from two-part ceramic and one-third bio-derived material derived from castor oil. The NATO strap used in this collection is made from fishing nets recovered from the ocean, reflecting its commitment to marine conservation.

SISTEM51 is an automatic mechanical movement (self-winding) consisting of 51 parts. Each part constitutes five pre-assembled and welded modules. The transparent balance wheel that controls the self-winding is held in place by the movement's only screw. Traditional automatic watches have more than twice as many parts as SISTEM51, and some of the more complex high-end models have more than 600 parts. These parts require the watchmakers to assemble them by hand for weeks or even months in their workshops.
SISTEM51 is the brand's first and only fully automatic mechanical movement. The high-tech escapement does not require a calibrator (scale-free assembly). The rate or accuracy is set at the factory using laser technology and does not require the manual adjustment required for a conventional mechanical watch. The movement is made of German silver, has a power reserve of 90 hours, and has a rust-resistant design. All parts are hermetically sealed in an airtight case, which is not affected by moisture, dust or impurities, guaranteeing long-lasting durability and precision (-5/+15 seconds error per day).
Every Swiss Swatch watch with a SISTEM51 calibre features a transparent design. Transparency is key to the SISTEM51 movement, a feature that makes Swatch stand out from the start. The automatic movement is driven by a balance wheel that SISTEM51 resembles a transparent disc that rotates freely on a separate central screw. Both the balance wheel and the visible surface of the movement's five modules can be printed, adding creative potential to the back of the watch. This design also laid the foundation for the collaboration that the brand has been committed to for four decades.

Seventy years ago, the classic mechanical diver's watch Fifty Fathoms was created. The watch was designed by passionate scuba diver Jean-Jacques Fiechter, then CEO of Blancpain.
