Tips: In November, when the results of the Singapore Primary 6 Examination are announced, students can choose to apply to Hwa Chong International School if they are not able to get into the school of their choice.
Most Hwa Chong entrance exams are mainly for Secondary 1 to 3 students.
However, in the August entrance exams, students from Form 2 to IB Year 1 will be admitted.

Exam content
According to the official entrance examination requirements, the content of the examination is divided into two parts, namely the entrance examination and the interview.

Entrance examination:
Written tests in English, Mathematics and/or Physics/Chemistry are included.
First, second and third year entry: English and math tests
Year 4 & IB 1 Entry: English, Maths and Physics/Chemistry tests

Only shortlisted candidates will be notified for an interview after the entrance exam, which will be conducted in English.

Entrance exam requirements
- The entrance test consists of an interview, written tests in English, Mathematics and Physics;
- The school will send the results of the entrance examination to the applicant's parents by email approximately 10 working days after the test.

Age Requirements
- Students applying for the first year of secondary school must be at least 12 years old on January 1 of the year of enrollment.
- International student applicants are allowed to be up to two years older for admission to the same grade level.
- Local students are allowed to be up to four years older for admission to the same grade.

Secondary School (Y1 to Y2):
The school uses the school's foundation curriculum, and students are taught in English, Chinese, Humanities-History-Geography, Science-Chemistry, Biology and Physics, and Mathematics, so that they have a basic and different level of understanding of these subjects.
In addition to the core curriculum described above, students will learn Xi global knowledge and perspectives, project studies, and the Creativity, Activity, Service (JCAS) curriculum for younger students, which combines Xi in sports, art, music, technology, and community service.

Senior School (Y3 to Y4):
The school offers courses in English, Chinese, Economics, Business, Geography, History, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Integrated Mathematics, which mainly enable students to master the depth of knowledge of these subjects and the skills of different Xi.
In addition to the core curriculum, students take Xi philosophical inquiry, project studies, and JCAS courses that combine sports and community service. At the end of the third year, students can choose whether or not to prepare to participate in the fourth year.

Upper School (Y5 to Y6):
Students receive the full IBDP curriculum, which focuses on developing students' potential and equipping them for university education.
A rigorous framework will be put in place to allow students to focus on in-depth academic research and prepare them for university.
The IBDP requires students to take one of six principal courses, one from each of six designated groups. In addition to this, students are required to take three subjects at Higher Level and three at Standard Level.
All students are required to complete the IB Diploma by completing the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and the three core projects of Creativity, Activity and Service.

Hwa Chong International School of Singapore runs an academic year from the beginning of January to the end of December every year. Each academic year is divided into 2 semesters and 4 semesters:
- The first semester runs from early January to mid-March
- The second semester runs from mid-March to early May
- The third semester is from early June to early September
- The fourth semester is from mid-September to late November
