Thailand's October employment survey results showed that about 150,000 new graduates were unemployed, a trend that NSO deputy director Suwannee Wangkarn called worrying.

The National Bureau of Statistics of Thailand conducts an employment survey of Thai citizens every month. The latest data collected in October showed that a total of 341,000 people were unemployed, with the largest proportion of recent graduates, accounting for 0.8% of the total.

In addition, according to the Bangkok Post, the survey found that about 212,000 unemployed people had never worked before.

The survey also assessed the readiness of the Thai population to enter the job market, and the results showed that out of the 40.37 million people who were ready to work, 39.95 million had already found some form of employment. At the same time, 80,000 people are classified as seasonal workers.

Interestingly, the survey found that a large part of Thailand's population, i.e., 18.64 million people, is not part of the labor force.

This group is mainly made up of housewives, students, and the sick or elderly. An encouraging trend observed in the survey is that Thailand's unemployment rate fell slightly in October compared to September, with 342,000 people unemployed in September.

The sub-regional analysis shows that the unemployment rate in the central and northeastern regions of Thailand has decreased, while the unemployment rate has increased in the northern and southern regions. Bangkok's unemployment rate remains stable.

Looking at it from a gender and age perspective, the survey found that men and adolescents aged 15 to 24 in Thailand are the most affected by unemployment.

Suwannee emphasized the urgency of addressing this issue. "The overall situation did improve in October, but the number of unemployed new graduates was alarming. ”

According to the announcement of Thailand's national planning agency, Thailand's unemployment rate fell in the first quarter, falling to a three-year low of 1.05%, down from 1.15% in the fourth quarter of 2022, according to the announcement of Thailand's national planning agency
