WIDA, the full name of World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment, is a language proficiency assessment system jointly developed by 20 states in the United States for American elementary and middle school students whose native language is not English.

Since 2003, the system has been used in 39 states and more than 400 international schools around the world.

Through this test, students can understand their language ability, and schools can adjust their teaching strategies based on the test results to better meet the needs of students.

How are WIDA tests graded?

According to the needs of the tester, there are 4 main levels:

  • Grades 1-2
  • Grades 3-5
  • Grades 6-8
  • Grades 9-12

The WIDA test is very comprehensive in terms of knowledge points, covering English, mathematics, science, social sciences and other content.

What are the features of the WIDA exam?

01

Objectivity:

The test content and grading criteria offered by the WIDA Education Alliance are based on the WIDA English Language Development Standards. The test results can be a fairly real and objective reflection of the candidate's English proficiency.

02

Comprehensive:

The WIDA exam examines four areas of students, namely listening, speaking, reading, and writing. At the same time, unlike the general language proficiency evaluation system, WIDA not only measures students' English ability, but also measures students' English language ability in four subjects: Chinese, mathematics, science, and social studies.

03

Flexibility:

The WIDA test has a difficulty grading system, which can flexibly adapt to students' English proficiency and achieve aptitude testing, so that students can perform well in the exam.

WIDA Selection Examination

WIDA Screener is an offline exam. Help schools to check and locate the English proficiency of new students at the time of admission, determine whether students can adapt to the all-English teaching environment, or whether they need to provide language support courses for students.

It is intended for students in grades 1-12. When it comes to international school admissions, the exam takes the form of a written test.

The duration of the exam is 85 minutes. It consists of 40 minutes of listening and reading, 25 minutes of writing, 15 minutes of oral expression, and 5 minutes of entry task.

WIDA Model Online Exam

WIDA Model Online is an online exam. It not only provides an evaluation basis for international schools, but also helps educators track the development and progress of students' English language skills in each semester.

It is aimed at students from early childhood up to grade 12 and is tested on the WIDA TAI platform, with a report immediately after the exam. The duration of the exam is 100 minutes. It consists of 30 minutes for writing, 25 minutes for reading, 30 minutes for listening, and 15 minutes for oral expression.

It should be noted that although the WIDA exam is divided into offline and online exams, the content and difficulty of the exams are the same, and there are only differences in the test time.

How are WIDA scores determined?

WIDA test scores include:

Listening, speaking, reading, and writing 4 individual scores + 3 comprehensive scores

The overall score is as follows:

Listening (50% Listening + 50% Speaking)

Reading & Writing (50% Reading + 50% Writing)

Total score (30% listening + 70% reading and writing)

Each grade comes in two forms:

One is Scale Score, the score range is 100~600 and is rounded as an integer;

一种是Proficiency Level,为6分,共分为6个等级。
