In 2018, Ji Xue, a 6-year-old Miao girl living in Gesha Miao Village, Longtan Village, Yanla Township, Xixiu District, Anshun City, Guizhou Province, and her family moved from Gesha Miao Village, which lacks water, has little arable land, and has a high altitude, to Rainbow Community, an ex-situ poverty alleviation and resettlement site in Xixiu District, 50 kilometers away.
Five years have passed, and in Ji Xue and her family's new home, the community facilities are more complete, with kindergartens, primary schools, junior high schools, community hospitals, supermarkets, etc. right next to their homes. It used to take her more than two hours to walk to kindergarten, but now it is less than a 10-minute walk from her home to school.
Ji Xue is now a sixth-grade elementary school student, and like the trees in the community, she has grown a lot taller. She said that she prefers her new home now because it is easier and faster to go to school, get out of school, eat and shop, and her teachers and classmates care about her at school. She and her sister will continue to study here until they graduate from junior high school.
The changes in the life of Ji Xue's family before and after the relocation are also a microcosm of the great changes in the era from poverty alleviation to rural revitalization.
