Urban green spaces – the lungs of humanity

Environmental protection science丨Environmental protection knowledge

Urban green spaces have at least four major functions: First, to purify the air. Absorb carbon dioxide, hydrogen fluoride, ammonia, chlorine and other toxic and harmful gases in the atmosphere, 100 square meters of grassland can absorb 1500 grams of carbon dioxide for 10 hours, and release 100 grams of oxygen at the same time. The second is to regulate the temperature of the atmosphere. 1 hectare of lawn evaporates about 6,300 kg of water per day, increasing the air temperature by 5-9%. The third is vacuuming and sterilization. Larger green squares can reduce noise by 20-30 decibels.

What is indoor air pollution?

Environmental protection science丨Environmental protection knowledge

People spend more than 80% of their lives indoors, do you know what is the general air pollution?

(1) Combustibles: toxic and harmful gases produced by coal stoves, gas stoves, and indoor smoking;

(2) Biological substances: bacteria that multiply in refrigerators and cooling systems, fungi that breed in air conditioning filters, dust mites growing in dust, and pollen brought in from indoor and outdoor areas;

(3) Chemical residues: benzene, formaldehyde, etc. released from various pesticides, home decoration or furniture plywood;

(4) Radioactive materials: Radon is released from cement, marble and other materials used in housing construction (according to surveys, 54% of the radioactive contamination currently known to mankind comes from radon);

(5) Asbestos: asbestos pipes made of shells, ventilation pipes made of asbestos corrugated paper, etc., cause indoor pollution due to wear and weathering.

The easiest way to control indoor air pollution is to ventilate, keep doors and windows open, keep the breeze open, and always be healthy.

Household noise – invisible pollution

Environmental protection science丨Environmental protection knowledge

Biologically speaking, all unpleasant sounds are noise. While people are more and more concerned about whether the outdoor environment is quiet and comfortable, they should also be concerned about whether the sound environment in the living room is environmentally friendly.

It is predicted that the noise generated by TVs and cassette recorders used in homes can reach 60-80 decibels, and washing machines are 42-70 decibels. According to clinical medical statistics, if you live in a noisy environment above 80 decibels, 50% of people will be deaf, and 85 decibels will make people feel upset and reduce work efficiency. Therefore, the volume and switching time of household appliances and other sound-generating appliances should be strictly controlled in the family room.

Don't underestimate the harm of nitrogen oxides to the human body

As piped gas, natural gas, and liquefied petroleum gas replace honeycomb coal, nitrogen oxides have become a significant source of pollution in kitchens.

Nitrogen oxides are nitric oxide and nitric oxide, nitric oxide is colorless and odorless, and hemoglobin binding ability is stronger than carbon monoxide, after inhaling this gas, it is easier to cause hypoxia in the human body, and the toxicity of nitrogen dioxide is 4-5 times higher than nitric oxide. Although the amount of nitrogen oxides emitted from the kitchen is not enough to cause immediate death, it can continue to invade the human body and cause various diseases. Nitrogen oxides can directly reach the bronchioles and alveoli in the deep respiratory tract, irritating alveolar tissues, causing pulmonary edema, and in severe cases, lung cancer. For housewives, nitrogen oxides can also damage skin tissue, destroy delicate skin, and make people look aged. Therefore, it is recommended that housewives should leave the range hood on for a long time before and after cooking to minimize pollution in the kitchen.

Use detergents and detergents with caution

Detergents and detergents are mostly chemical products, and long-term improper use of detergents and detergents will manipulate the human nervous system and hinder people's intellectual development. Detergents and detergents remain on clothes, which can irritate skin allergies, and long-term use of high-concentration detergents and detergents will cause carcinogens to enter the human body from the skin and mouth, damaging health.

Why promote the use of phosphorus-free laundry detergent?

Laundry detergents sold in the market generally use sodium phosphate as a detergent. After washing, phosphorus-containing wastewater continues to flow into rivers and lakes, causing the rapid growth of cyanobacteria, causing "eutrophication" of fish and other aquatic animals in the water body due to lack of oxygen, until the water quality deteriorates or even stinks. High-phosphorus laundry detergent has direct irritation to the skin, which can cause burning pain, and washed clothes can sometimes cause itchy skin when worn on the body. As a result, high-phosphorus laundry detergents have become a source of irritation for common skin diseases such as contact dermatitis, baby diaper rash, and anteloderma plantaris.

Don't mess with plastic bags for food

Environmental protection science丨Environmental protection knowledge

There are three types of plastic bags that people use nowadays:

One is not allowed to touch the skin and cannot be used for food, and can only be used for building materials, one is used for clothing, and the other can be used reluctantly to hold food.

Most of these three plastic bags contain "toxins", such as polyvinyl chloride plastic is a toxic variety, although the raw materials are non-toxic, but stabilizers are added in the production process, and these additives are mainly lead stearate, which is toxic. These lead salts are very easy to precipitate, and once they enter the human body, they will cause accumulated lead poisoning, so plastic bags should never be used indiscriminately when loading food.

Several foods that should not be eaten too much

MSG: Excessive intake of MSG will increase glutamate in the blood, causing short-term headaches, heartbeats, nausea and other symptoms, as well as adverse effects on the human life and death system.

Pickles: Pickles contain nitrite amines, which are often eaten and pose a carcinogenic hazard.

Fritters: In the production process of fried dough sticks, alum (potassium aluminum sulfate) must be added, aluminum is enriched in the kidneys and difficult to discharge, resulting in toxins to the brain and nerve cells, which can easily cause Alzheimer's disease.

Stinky tofu: During the fermentation process, stinky tofu is easily contaminated by microorganisms, and it also contains a large amount of volatile salt-based ammonia and hydrogen sulfide, which deteriorates and decomposes proteins.

Songhua eggs: Songhua eggs use a certain amount of lead in the production process, and regular consumption will cause lead poisoning.

Spinach: Spinach contains oxalic acid, which will be excreted in the form of compounds in combination with zinc and calcium in food, causing a deficiency of zinc and calcium in the human body.

"Environmental protection" is not the same as "sanitation"

Environmental protection science丨Environmental protection knowledge

"Environmental protection" is environmental protection, and its main task is to protect and improve the production environment and ecological environment, prevent and control pollution and other public hazards, and focus on the prevention and control of water pollution, air pollution, noise pollution, solid waste pollution, etc. Its management body is the administrative department of environmental protection of the people's governments at all levels. "Sanitation" is environmental sanitation, and its main task is to eliminate the pollution of human life and its hazards, such as cleaning the streets, eliminating domestic garbage, human and animal feces, and eliminating mosquitoes, flies and rodents.
