On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2024, Cartier presents new timepieces, the Cartier Ronde Louis Cartier High Jewellery and the Cartier Tank Chinoise China Edition, to kick off the New Year with a focus on China-inspired creativity and savoir-faire.

Cartier Master Détiers dragon embellished High Jewellery watch

Cartier Métier's Métiers d'Art collection introduces the Ronde Louis Cartier dragon embellished High Jewellery watch, numbered and limited to 30 pieces.

Using enamel and engraving, the Chinese-inspired "Dragon Soaring to the Sea" image is brought to life on the dial thanks to the mastery of Cartier's master craftsmen.

In this new timepiece, the waves are presented in cloisonné enamel in Cartier's signature blue and green colour scheme, while the waves are framed by iridescent mother-of-pearl inserts. The dragon image is hand-carved in gold with lifelike detail, and the "eyes" are also fired in enamel to complete the finishing touch. The enamel process used on this watch is repeated 25 times, each of which is a test of the craftsman's skills.

The dragon has a long history in traditional Chinese culture and is a symbol of auspiciousness and prosperity. The image of the dragon has long inspired Cartier's stylistic creations. The Maison continues to explore for oriental inspirations, and the Cartier archives document designs inspired by China dating back to the late 19-70s. In the 1920s, when the Art Deco style was in vogue, a number of jewels and precious objects using dragon elements were highlighted in the Cartier collection, showing the harmonious fusion of Chinese culture and Cartier's style and aesthetics, and this timeless style dialogue continues to this day.

Cartier Tank Chinoise China Limited Edition

Conceived by Louis Cartier in 1917 and on sale in 1919, the Tank is a masterpiece of Cartier and watchmaking history. Over the years, the Tank watch has been reimagined with an innovative perspective.

In 1922, the Tank Chinoise was launched, a collection rooted in Cartier's imagination of Oriental culture. The design is inspired by the portico of temple architecture, with horizontal axes superimposed above the vertical lugs. Clean lines, precise shapes and subtle contrasts between matt and polished textures make it stand out. In 2022, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Tank Chinoise, this iconic timepiece is reimagined in the Cartier Privé collection.

This year, the Tank Chinoise China Limited Edition has opened a new chapter. The case continues the geometric lines of the classic silhouette of the model and draws inspiration from traditional Chinese techniques, with a new burgundy lacquer finish. The silver-plated off-white dial features a delicate embossed texture and gold-toned apple-shaped hands. The faceted yellow gold crown adorns a red jasper hue that matches the burgundy of the case. This timepiece is powered by the hand-wound mechanical calibre 430 MC made in the Cartier workshop.
