Therefore, this correspondence is a first-hand historical material for us to study the social history of the late Qing Dynasty, to study Zeng Guofan and his people, to understand the Xiang Army, the Huai Army, and the battles with the Taiping Army and the Twist Army, which are precious and extraordinary, and it is no wonder that it can become the treasure of the Guangyuan Archives.
Guangyuan, known as Lizhou in ancient times, as a prefecture-level city sitting on four counties and three districts, Guangyuan's position in history is quite embarrassing, although there are many celebrities here, but they have nothing to do with the downtown area, except for the empress Wu Zetian, who is said to have been born in Guangyuan.

He was bent on serving the country and wanted to serve in the army, "Loyal servants and martyrs rose up in battle, down to Lu Lane, down to lu lanes, salty and generous to the difficult, to the blade of blood without hesitation." ”
Therefore, he wanted to throw himself into the pen and said to himself, "Today there are many troubles, the four sides are conscripted, there is no rest for eight or nine years, and all those who have bloody righteousness and righteousness want to do what they want to do to defend the society." He also wrote to Li Hongzhang and Yi Zhou, but this Li Shenfu did not seem to take this as a matter of course.

This is a poem he wrote after his dismissal, from which we can also see Li Shenfu's dashing and upright, located in a desolate and backward natural environment, but he can also be happy and forget his worries, in fact, the unfairness in this, the pain in his heart, I am afraid that only he knows, perhaps it is a kind of A-Q-style spiritual victory method that he comforts himself.
Because for him, "the youth is not suitable for the forest, and the saints are poor and ashamed," However, the world is chaotic and the eunuchs are sinister, so they have to "have a life and a destiny, and the rich and the famous are flowing." ”
In the nearly 20 years since he was dismissed from his post and returned to his hometown to his death, he mainly taught as a profession, but in the face of frequent external troubles and the national situation of tigers and wolves, he still wanted to do his meager efforts, during which he had two years to travel south, intending to make a comeback.
He visited a number of friends who were in the Huai Army, including the famous Liu Mingchuan, but because of his arrogant nature, he may have a fight with this Lord Liu, no wonder both of them have returned to their hometowns for many years, but when he "became familiar with Mr. Liu Mingchuan, he was accustomed to wagging his tail and begging for pity." It was really difficult to be with it, so he resolutely returned to his hometown and decided to teach and educate people but was disabled.
In terms of cultivating backwards, he spared no effort, in addition to lecturing at the Kenshan Academy in his hometown, he also went to Denglong and Kuangshan Academy, serving as the head of the mountain and teaching himself, and also set up a museum at home, while educating the children of the clan, while recruiting students from around, the disciples in northern Sichuan were all over the place, becoming a crowd of artificial scholars, and there were few horses in Shuzhong.

His calligraphy is first-class, his writings are quite very good, although he has been familiar with the past and the present, he has a hundred houses, but his writing is strange, his poetry loves to use dangerous rhymes, he has not achieved too outstanding achievements in his life, and he has not made a rhyme to attract people's attention, so his poems, his texts, his people, and his affairs have been lost to the world, and even the people of his hometown Guangyuan do not know his name, so it can be seen that he is also a tragic figure.
Looking at Li Shenfu's life, he was a standard Confucian scholar, and he said that there were only two major regrets in his life, "one captures the Phoenix Pond, not with Heng jian; one wins the clan, and does not advance and retreat." From this, we can also see that he is still an ambitious person, and he also has the slightest regret for his temperament.
As the saying goes, his nature is difficult to move, and he takes "self-cultivation and family peace in the world" as the criterion everywhere, and when the chaos of Hong and Yang coincides, he desperately goes to the battlefield; he studied under Zeng Guofan, was regarded as a national soldier, taught by words and deeds, and carefully guarded; after the war, he was appointed as a feudal official; but because he was a gengjie, honest and self-respecting, and offended the giant chamber, he was degraded and mourned.
But his original intention did not change, returned to his hometown to teach, the ancient road tree people, after achieving a large number of scholars, finally died in poverty, and the reputation is not heard of in the hometown, whenever I think of this, I can't help but strangle my wrists, because the people of Guangyuan really should remember this former village sage, sad, Li Shenfu, I sigh for him to the heavens!
