On December 14, the results of the 2023 sports coach qualification evaluation in Hubei Province were announced, and the badminton world champion Du Yue was on the list. Traditionally, she retired a few months ago and will be hired as a mid-level coach by the relevant units.
Those who follow the Chinese badminton team should be no stranger to Du Yue. Du Yue debuted very early, winning the mixed doubles championship and the women's doubles runner-up at the 2016 Badminton World Youth Championships. Du Yue was one of the main players in the women's doubles of the Tokyo Olympic cycle, when she teamed up with Li Yinhui, and the two won the 2019 and 2021 Sudirman Cup and the 2019 World Championships women's doubles semifinals. The Tokyo Olympics were the biggest tournament for Du Yue and Li Yinhui, when they lost 1:2 in the quarter-finals to the Indonesian pair of Poli and Rahayu, who later won the championship, and failed to win a medal.
After the Tokyo Olympics, Li Yinhui, who was only 24 years old, chose to retire, and Du Yue, who was one year younger than her, chose to persevere. At first, Du Yue and Li Wenmei cooperated, and they showed a certain competitiveness, but there was no obvious breakthrough after a period of time. Later, Du Yue was paired with Xia Yuting and Chen Fanghui successively, but he also failed to play the height when he cooperated with Li Yinhui. After retiring, Du Yue returned to his hometown of Hubei and became a coach at the table tennis and badminton sports management center of the provincial sports bureau.
