Spend 5 billion yuan to build 8 ships! BYD Auto Ro-Ro Carrier No. 1 made its maiden voyage

Fast Technology reported on December 4 that after the domestic sales broke out completely, BYD aimed at the overseas market, and has now landed in many countries and regions such as Asia, Europe, North and South America.

Due to the small number of its overseas factories, this means that a large part of the models have to be exported, which has also given rise to the demand for BYD's sea transport ships, for which BYD will build its own "fleet" to go to sea.

In October last year, it was reported that BYD's affiliated company would order 8 ro-ro ships that can carry 7,700 cars at a shipyard in Yantai, Shandong, with a total cost of nearly 5 billion yuan, of which 6 were basically determined to be built, and the other 2 were option orders.

After more than a year, recently, BYD Auto's ro-ro transport ship EXPLORER 1 successfully completed a 7-day first trial voyage in Yantai, Shandong, which is not far from its official opening.

It is worth mentioning that last month, the No. 1 ship of BYD's 7,000-vehicle dual-fuel vehicle carrier (PCTC) project, undertaken by Guangzhou Shipbuilding International, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Group, started construction in Nansha, Guangzhou.

The ship has a total length of 199.9 meters, a width of 38 meters, a design draft of 9 meters, a design speed of 18.5 knots, and a natural gas (LNG)/fuel oil dual-fuel propulsion system to meet the requirements of intelligent ships.

It is equipped with a battery system, shaft generator, energy-saving devices, drag reduction and antifouling paint and other energy-saving measures for the first time, and is a green, intelligent, environmentally friendly and efficient car carrier.

The project plans to build a total of 2 ships, with BYD as the ultimate cargo owner, which will break the long-term "stuck neck" situation of European shipping companies and ensure the stability of BYD's export supply of new energy vehicles.

In other words, the two shipyards in Yantai and Guangzhou will build up to 10 roller ships for BYD, and with them, BYD's road to the sea is bound to be smoother.
