exegesis
Commandment: To warn, to be vigilant.
夫 (fú): Particle, used at the beginning of a sentence, indicating the beginning.
Gentleman: A person of high moral character.
Conduct: refers to integrity, morality, and conduct.
Tranquility: Eliminate distractions and distractions, and be quiet and single-minded.
Take: conjunction, indicating that the latter is the purpose of the former.
Self-cultivation: Cultivating the body and mind.

淡泊: 内心淡泊,不慕名利。

Withering: withering, decaying. It is a metaphor for old age and decay, which is useless.

Translations
A person with moral cultivation relies on inner tranquility to cultivate his body and mind, and cultivates his noble character by being frugal and economical. If you are not quiet and have few desires, you will not be able to clarify your aspirations, and you will not be able to achieve lofty goals without excluding external interference.
Learning must be quiet and single-minded, and talent comes from diligent study. If you don't study, you can't grow your talents, and if you don't have a clear ambition, you can't achieve success in learning. Indulgence in debauchery, passivity and sluggishness will not motivate the mind and lift up the spirit, and risk-taking, hasty and impatient will not cultivate the temperament.
The years fly with the passage of time, and the will gradually fades with the years. In the end, they withered and scattered, most of them did not contact the world and were not used by the society, so they could only be sadly trapped in their own poor and dilapidated houses, and how could they regret it at that time?
