Three major options: synthetic cotton, down, fleece. They are not the same in terms of warmth, wind resistance, compression, and weight, so what we need to do is to choose the most suitable one according to the environment in which they are used.
Synthetic cotton
My first choice is that it is light and warm, and it can be kept warm when it is wet, which is safer in the wild.

The advantages and disadvantages are obvious, the warmth is the best, fluffy and lightweight, and the compression volume is small. However, when it is wet, it loses its warmth and cannot be washed frequently.
✅ It is generally worn when it is relatively static, and it is very suitable for camp activities. I have Montane and Rab's ribs down, and for a while Rab sold cheaper in China than in the UK, and I earned it when I bought it
✅ Many of UNIQLO's items are also suitable for outdoor, Ultra light down is a cost-effective choice, but it will drill down... And it will become like this after washing.
Fleece
A lot of old outdoors equate fleece with the middle layer, and I was the same when I first started playing outdoors. However, the warmth and compressibility of fleece are obviously weak, and it is only suitable for autumn wear.
