In 1962, Arafat successfully ran for president of the Palestinian Students' Union and soon demonstrated outstanding leadership skills, founding the first publication of the Palestinians themselves and meeting another Palestinian leader, Jihad.
Arafat had the courage and wisdom to propose to the Egyptian authorities the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, but he was rejected, but he was not discouraged, and at the World Youth Congress, he stood on the international stage and announced to the whole world the aspirations of the Palestinian people for statehood.
In 1964, when Palestinian resistance groups formed the People's Liberation Group and waged a war with Israel through guerrilla warfare, Fatah visited China as a delegation.
At that time, the Chinese Government expressed its understanding of the Palestinian people's resistance and provided material assistance to them, but at the same time reminded them that it was imperative to stop terrorist activities and strive for peace.
However, the radical Arafat was in the middle of his blood, and how could he heed China's advice, and he soon took the lead in setting off a bloody campaign of terror, and was named the "King of Terror" by the world.
In 1969, Arafat became Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and Commander-in-Chief of the Palestinian Revolutionary Armed Forces.
After the fall of Palestine, Jordan extended an olive branch and allowed the PLO to repair its life in Jordan, which gave Arafat a respite, and soon the organization began to expand.
However, some extremists are ungrateful, and they even try to control Jordan by assassinating the king of Jordan in order to confront Israel.
Although the king of Jordan showed tolerance, this made the extremists even more difficult, they not only set up checkpoints to exploit refugees, but even occupied Jordan's oil resources, so the king asked Arafat to mediate, but in the end to no avail, which made Jordan unbearable, and finally the two sides broke up.
Subsequently, Fatah set up a terrorist group called "Black September" and began to launch frenzied attacks on Israel, Jordan and other hostile forces, and Arafat became more and more radical.
However, as the situation became more complex and changeable, Arafat also began to realize that war could not solve the problem, so under the mediation of the international community, the Palestinians and Israelis began to look for a political solution.
In 1993, Arafat, then chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization, held a secret meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Bhadhak Rabin and signed the Declaration of Principles of Interim Self-Government Arrangements in the United States, known as the "Oslo Accords".
At the time, this agreement was considered a historic milestone in the Palestinian-Israeli peace process, as it provided for Palestinian recognition of the State of Israel and preparation for a future truly "independent statehood".
However, two years later, Rabin was suddenly assassinated by Jewish militants, and the dream of Palestinian-Israeli peace was shattered. Since then, Palestinian-Israeli relations have continued to deteriorate, culminating in the second Palestinian intifada.
Beginning in the spring of 2002, when Israel launched a major attack on the West Bank, Arafat was besieged in a small space and lived in near captivity for more than two years.
At that time, Israel tried to get him to leave for some Arab or Western country. But Arafat knew that this meant death, so he preferred to stay in a suffocating bunker and endure the ordeal.
Israel calls Arafat an "obstacle to peace", which means that peace between Palestine and Israel can only be made if Arafat is dead.
However, after Arafat's death, Palestinian-Israeli relations not only did not ease, but fell into a vicious circle.
In July 2013, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry finally resumed peace talks between Palestine and Israel after some efforts, however, the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement Hamas and Fatah, founded by Arafat, reached a "reconciliation agreement", and Israel then unilaterally announced the suspension of peace talks, followed by a large-scale attack on Gaza, which led to a sharp deterioration in Palestinian-Israeli relations and intensified hatred between the two sides.
Now, 10 years later, the Palestinians' "great nation-building" is still far away, and the wall and rockets can still be seen flying indiscriminately.
In fact, the greatest catastrophe in Palestine is not the heavy blow of Israel, but the scourge of the wall.
After Arafat's death, Fatah's armed forces were scattered, without the cohesion they had before. Another radical force, Hamas, has emerged from nowhere, insisting on the "liberation of Palestine under Israeli occupation", that is, the attempt to establish an "Islamic state" in the area that encompasses present-day Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip.
As a result, for a long time, Hamas has been at odds with Israel, and has often carried out attacks on the Israeli army, so much so that the United States and the European Union have listed it as a "terrorist organization".
Hamas's hard-line approach, however, has won the support of a growing number of Palestinians.
Hamas defeated Fatah in the Legislative Council elections held in Palestine on January 25, 2006, and it was from then on that the two sides came together and a series of violent clashes erupted. In June 2007, Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip and Fatah retreated to the West Bank.
