Sun Chun is a measurement and control engineer at fast bases. After graduating from graduate school in 2012, Sun Chun began to participate in the construction of FAST and participated in the control of reflective surfaces. In March 2014, when the FAST project was under intense construction, Sun Chun came to the base and began a long-term on-site work.

At that time, the construction period was very tight, and it was urgent to enhance the combat effectiveness and cohesion of the work team, Sun Chun found several other young party members and proposed to his superiors the idea of establishing an on-site party branch. In order to make the party members at the project site always keep in line with the party Central Committee, insist on studying, and further play the role of the party organization as a fighting fortress and the vanguard and exemplary role of party members at the project site, in March 2014, with the consent of the Taiwan party committee, the Guizhou branch party branch was established.
Sun Chun: "At the scene, we didn't have a party branch at that time. Then our side is, all the time, to the director, whether we can create a branch on the spot. What I think is that as a party member, I may not be able to do anything earth-shattering, but I can play a certain leading role in life. Our branch was established on the spot when we were 14 years old, and there were only 7 people when we were founded. ”

Sun Chun recalled that the life of the construction site was very difficult, there was no highway, from Guiyang to the site to take the old road, it takes five hours to drive; there is no house, until the completion of FAST, everyone lives in the board house; the base personnel are almost isolated from the outside world, and it is nearly 40 minutes away from the nearest town. In such an environment, the party members of the branch gritted their teeth, faced the difficulties, and led everyone to work hard in their respective posts.
Sun Chun: "Although there are 7 party members, we are distributed in several departments. In this work, the small piece of party members plays a cohesive role. Treating this job positively and working hard to do this well is actually a great influence on other non-party members. ”
The power of example not only inspires all builders, but also inspires more people to come to the mountains of Guizhou. In July 2015, the fast reflective panels began to be paved, and all the works entered the sprint phase.
When Sun Chun was working day and night on the construction site to carry out integrated wiring for optical cables and wires, Song Benning, a graduate student of computer application technology jointly trained by Guizhou University and the National Astronomical Observatory in Heze, Shandong Province, stepped on the T87 "Qiannan" train from Beijing West to Guiyang at 8:32 a.m. on July 28, and a sentence was written on the side of the train car: "Qian" is "Qian" forward, and "South" forgets for life.

Song Benning: "At that time, I first saw that FSAT, I didn't understand what it meant, and then I went back and searched the Internet. Then I felt that there is such a big project in Guizhou now, that is, the construction of major national scientific and technological infrastructure. Later, I saw this admissions brochure and felt that it was a great honor to have the opportunity to participate in this. ”
On September 25, 2016, the "China Sky Eye" FAST was launched and began to receive electromagnetic waves from the depths of the universe.
In October 2017, FAST made its first discovery of two new pulsars, located about 4,100 light-years and 16,000 light-years from Earth, respectively.
On January 11, 2020, the 500-meter aperture spherical radio telescope successfully passed the national acceptance and was put into official operation.
From March 31, 2021, China's Tianyan will be open to astronomers around the world to solicit observation applications, promote the output of more scientific achievements, and make Chinese contributions to the progress of human civilization.
After more than six years of tempering, Song Benning became a measurement and control engineer at FAST, participated in the construction of the telescope measurement system, the debugging of the telescope, the observation duty of the general control room and many other important work, and always remembered in his heart that he was a party member.

Today, fast observation base has more than 100 researchers, including 37 party members, their average age is only 38 years old. Feng Li, deputy director of the base office, was also one of the seven party members who participated in the formation of the branch that year. She told reporters that despite the harsh conditions and far from the outside world, this group of young "lookers" has always silently adhered to it without complaint or regret in order to make the heavy instrument of the country that has gathered countless people's efforts operate stably and reliably.

After nearly 6,000 hours of observation services after commissioning, trial operation and official opening operation, the current "China Tianyan" is stable and reliable, the sensitivity ranks first among the world's radio telescopes, and the volume of the space range that can be effectively explored far exceeds the most advanced radio telescopes before.
